I have a confession, on Monday I did the bare minimum at work all day long. I was feeling tired and unmotivated so I did just enough to fly under the radar until it was time to go home. I didn’t feel great about it but it really punched me in the mouth when I woke up on Tuesday morning. School was canceled for my wife and daughters and they got a “snow” day. My wife suggested I take a PTO day and spend time with them. My heart broke. I told her I had way too much to do and some lunch deadlines I had to meet (spreadsheets and reports that I could have done on Monday but…). I was sick over the time with my family I could have had but the “fart sack” on Monday led to a missed opportunity to get closer to my M and Shorties on Tuesday. Later that day I ran into this quote by John Maxwell that hit home and came with perfect timing.

“We overestimate what we can do tomorrow, we over-exaggerate what we did yesterday and we underestimate what we can do today.” -John Maxwell

If we stay consistent about how we structure our “today’s” the yesterdays and tomorrows will take care of themselves.

Today is the only moment we have, all we have is now. What is on your daily agenda? What are you putting off until tomorrow? Don’t wait, perform the tasks at a hand and do the best you can today. We never know what tomorrow will hold.

Watch this: “Good”- Jocko Willink

If you follow Jocko at all you have surely heard him say “Good” in response to almost every situation, especially when things do not go as planned. The video is linked up above and is sure to fire you up.

With all of the stuff going on around us we can ultimately only control how we respond to things. I have found it beneficial to respond with “Good” and go from there. It helps me remember to take things in stride and take a lesson from every situation and get better no matter what happened. Good can come from any situation if we look hard enough.

Ultimately, if you are a believer, you can say “Good” in everything because we know that the Lord is with us and He is ordering our steps.

Joshua 1:9“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

Word of the day Receptive!

Receptive is defined as able or inclined to receive especially: open and responsive to ideas, impressions, or suggestions.

Developing receptiveness is a crucial skill If we want to be effective leaders/fathers/professionals/husbands we need to look at every situation with an open mind. No matter how relevant we deem a piece of advice given to us or feedback received on something we have done, we should always slow down enough and be receptive to what is being said and take the relevant parts and grow from every situation.

Challenge: What is one piece of unpopular advice or piece of feedback you have received In the last few weeks that, after further thought, you can learn from and become a better man for, even though it may not have seemed relevant at the time?

1 Thessalonians 5:21

“But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.”

Proverbs 18:15

And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.”

Split into groups of 3

16 minutes for each group to get max rounds of the following exercises starting with 1 rep and adding a rep each cycle. (Goal is to climb as high on the ladder as you can with your group) Each group will work together and pretend to skip rope until everyone in the group has finished the reps.

Hand Release Merkins

Split Squat Press (These got really spicy really quick)

Underhanded row

Overhand curls

BBS (Focusing on full range of motion. Hands touch ground behind the head, all the way to a toe touch at the top of the BBS)

When we get to the 16-minute mark groups will tally their total

YHC broke a CMU so we had to break form some penalty burpees

Then groups will proceed to work back down from their max rounds accomplished down the ladder all the way to 1 of each. If the group does not get back down the ladder to 1 there is a 10 burpee penalty. We took our total and subtracted 3 and went back down the ladder with a 10-minute time cap.

Everyone finished before the 10 minutes so we did 5 burpees just because.

James 4:14 “Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”

I have been really convicted in my own life about focusing on things that are not high on the eternal priority list. I have been getting so caught up in eternally low priorities that I am letting the truly important things fall to the waste side. Take the time today and every day going forward to look at your wife in the eyes and ask her how she is doing, when your kids ask you to play with them, even if it’s for 20 minutes, DO IT. Everything else (Work, cleaning, tv, your phone) can wait, the people around you will stop trying to fight for your attention if you keep sending them down the priority list.

I am thankful for all of the men of F3 around me and the man that I have become since I joined you guys in the gloom back in March, Thank you!

Read an excerpt from My Utmost for His Highest Shallow and Profound

“Beware of allowing yourself to think that the shallow aspects of life are not ordained by God; they are ordained by Him equally as much as the profound. We sometimes refuse to be shallow, not out of our deep devotion to God but because we wish to impress other people with the fact that we are not shallow. This is a sure sign of spiritual pride.” -Oswald Chambers

Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. —1 Corinthians 10:31

Often times I let the fear of sounding shallow or not having something “enlightened” to say stand in the way of sharing or entering into discussions in many of the circles I am apart of. These excerpts from Oswald Chambers challenged me deeply and made me realize that no matter how shallow I think something is, When I feel led to share or to start a conversation it is more than likely ordained by the Spirit and to not engage is out of fear (or out of pride).

What fruit are we not seeing in our lives because we are holding back for fear of being seen as shallow?
