Crazy 88s or Can I go back to doing burpees now? IPC2

THE SCENE: Sorta cool, but your shirt is still getting drenched with sweat
F3 WELCOME & DISCLAIMER
WARM-O-RAMA:

Very short:  A few SSHs and some quick X-factors to prep for the IPC, and then a quick mosey to the parking lot on the other side of the Cloud.
THA-THANG:
4 rounds.  Distance covered is always 60 yards.

  • 8 burpees, run to other marker, 8 burpees, run back.  Repeat 11x (for 88 total burpees);
  • Grab your CMU for Squrls (Squats with a curl).  Do 8, CMU carry to other marker, 8 more, etc. x 11 (88 total Squrls)
  • CMU again.  This time, it’s 88 overhead presses in a row, rifle carry to the marker, 88 overhead presses again, rifle carry back to the start.  You are now done with the coupons!
  • Last one:  88 X-factors in a row and either bear crawl or crawl bear to the other marker for 88 more x-factors, then bear crawl or crawl bear (whichever one you didn’t do to get you to the marker) back.
  • Plank it up while waiting on the Six (just kidding – catch your breath)

MARY:
Circle up for some mumblechatter and star gazers

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
From something I heard the other day that’s been pinging around in my head:  “If you have a goal and just keep working toward that goal, the universe will train you.”  I don’t know about that, but I do know that if you want to accomplish anything, the path forward is so much easier when we let God train us.  We do that when our goal is to seek God’s guidance, listen for him, open our hearts and our minds to him.  I find that much, much easier to say than do.  Frankly, it takes a lot of strength to pursue that goal every day. Hence, our verse for the BOM:  “But you, be strong and do not lose courage, for there is reward for your work.”  2 Chronicles 15:7.
MOLESKIN:
Continue praying for Matlock’s father in law and family and their very tough situation.

Also, shout out to Waffle House, who wins beast-of-the-day award.  We were one short on CMUs, so the Q grabbed a coupon from the big rock pile.  Not wanting to cheat, I picked a decent sized rock. It turned out that was the Rock of Pain, very much heavier than a CMU coupon.  After seeing the Q struggle through round 2, he took on the rock and completed the most grueling part of the workout with it.  That is a HIM in action!
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Hardship Hill- Sign up!  And we still need guys to help build the obstacles we are responsible for.

Drexler is the new Barkley?

THE SCENE: Mid-60s, post-rain, really nice!
F3 WELCOME & DISCLAIMER
WARM-O-RAMA:

The Q was late, so Hot Tub got us started with SSHs, Q arrived in time to throw in some Cherry Pickers.  Time to Mosey
THA-THANG:
It’s the Barkley.  But with 25s at each station, so I guess that makes it the Drexler, although there was this whole Slack back and forth that led to that.  Trust me, you just had to be there.

So, the Barkley is the circumnavigation of the top of Everest, the Colosseum, and the the Asylum building.  There are 4 stations to check in:

  • Station 1: 25s of Merkins and Big Boys;
  • Station 2: 25s of Calf Raises and LBCs (4 count for each);
  • Station 3: 25s of Carolina Dry Docks and Amer. Hammers (4 ct)
  • Station 4: 25s of flutters (4 ct) and squats

Complete as many laps as possible. (2-3)

MARY:
None today.  Ran out of time.
COUNT-OFF & NAME-O-RAMA
CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
Grief has been on my mind lately.  We all grieve. We grieve the loss of a loved one, the loss of friendships, the loss of a marriage, a job, a pet, activities or function from injury.  The list goes on.  If we don’t deal with it, it will deal with us.  It will get out and cause damage.  For me, I get angry at people I love for no reason.  Rely on God to help, reach out your brothers in the Pax, to loved ones.  Exercise the body, the spirit, and the mind.  Don’t let grief take hold of you.  Hat-tip to Omaha for the verse for the day: 2 Corithians 12:9-10

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Hardship Hill – sign up and help with obstacle builds!

Fitz Traverse

THE SCENE: Low 70s, but manageable humidity for a change
F3 WELCOME & DISCLAIMER: Beefed up since “The Incident” involving Carney.
WARM-O-RAMA:

SSHs.  That’s it.  Quickly get on the mosey.  Brief interlude as we commune with one of the local skunks, who quickly demonstrated a keen attraction to Lebowski.  We’ve got things to do if we want to finish, so we move along.
THA-THANG:
We’re attempting the Fitz Traverse this morning.  Named after the “Fitz Traverse,” which means climbing each peak of the ridge line along the Fitz Roy Massif in Patagonia.

  • 1st peak: Guillaumet (Skunk Hill): Complete 50 Merkins or squats, climb hill as quickly as possible, 50 LBCs, descend;
  • 2nd peak: Mermoz (Cardiac): 40 Merkins or squats, Bernie to the first turn, slow Mosey to the second turn, sprint to the top.  Unless you’re Brick, then you just keep on running Forest Gump style.  25 Flutters (4 ct) at the top.  Continue Traverse toward Everest.
  • 3rd peak: Poincenot (Coolio Knob up to the top of the cave stairs).  50 CDDs or Lunges at the bottom.  25 4 ct American Hammers at the top. Mosey to the bottom of Everest.
  • 4th peak: Fitz Roy (Everest).  Bonnie Blairs at the bottom.  Pickle Pounders at the top.
  • 5th peak: Rafael Juarez (Grinch Hill).  Noticing the time, we skip the exercises, gather the forces and move on to the next summit.
  • 6th peak: St. Exupery (Pickets Charge).  Run from the main road at the bottom to the Colosseum.  Interrupt Edit and Roadshow trying to fellowship with some other guys.  Traverse back toward the AO
  • 7th peak:  Aguja De I’s (Baby Everest).  Sprint to the top and back down to the AO.

MARY:
No time for Mary.  Buckets has a long trip back to Harriman.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
Here’s a quote to mull over:  “Only the mediocre are always at their best.”  Jean Giraudoux.  What this means to me is that I should never be satisfied with where I am or my effort.  Keep pushing, whether it is as a father, husband, friend, Christian.  I can always do better.
MOLESKIN:
Prayers for Buckets that his job interview went well yesterday.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Camp Run-a-muck!

Disney Sing-A-Long

THE SCENE: The good:  It wasn’t pouring down rain.  The bad:  99.99999% humidity.
F3 WELCOME & DISCLAIMER: I’m pretty sure Gibbler didn’t say it was free or that he wasn’t a professional.  Both of those facts were immediately apparent, however.

WARM-O-RAMA:
I distinctly remember lots of SSHs while Bluebird took his sweet time walking over from his truck to the AO. I think he stopped to re-tie his shoes and picked up a few pennies off the ground on the way.  And then we did some Tennessee Rocking Chairs.
THA-THANG:
We moseyed to the Colosseum (that’s right Gibbler.  The Colosseum. Not the Overlook!).  Once we got there, we started listening to that song.  What’s that song from the Disney movie?  Yeah, that one too, but I’m thinking of the other one.  No, we listened to that as well, but I’m thinking of . . . forget it. We listened to all of them. Well, except for “Bear Necessities.”  Where’s the love for The Jungle Book, Gibbler??

As we re-imagined this as a workout with our 6 year old kids, Gibbler had us do pyramids.  I’ll be honest, I don’t remember all of the exercises, or in order.  Just know that we blasted our legs and our abs for a solid 25 minutes or so. Occasionally, we’d break for a long bear crawl (incident free today, thank goodness) or a run around the loop.  Mumblechatter was at a high level throughout.

Heartbreakingly, it was time to head back to the AO far too quickly.

MARY:
At the AO, it was Capt. Thors up to at least 6/24 before a merciful 15 seconds of stargazers closed us out and the last song of the day gently swirled down our ears (“I’ll Make A Man Out Of You”? Honestly, they’re all running around together in my head right now, so I can’t remember.)

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
MOLESKIN:
Another Tolkien quote:  “The old that is strong does not wither.”  This one is dedicated to our very own BlueBird, who hits 59 tomorrow.  Happy Birthday, BlueBird!
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Sign up for the Off the Chain CSAUP and try to pick up a Wesley House Q on Wednesday afternoons.

COUNT-OFF & NAME-O-RAMA

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Phil 2:4.  I had an experience the other day where God put somebody in my path and counseled me to be patient and listen to what they wanted to say more than to their words.  I tend to hurry conversations along, pulling only information I think is important for me to do what I think I need to do.  What God wants me to do is listen more so I can spot times when I might be able to help somebody.
MOLESKIN:
Prayers for Rainbow’s friend Paul, who is struggling right now; for Waxjob’s family and mother-in-law Karen, who is close to the end of her earthly journey; and prayers for Snag and his Dad.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Wesley House work day on June 26.  Sign up and show up!
