Psalm 103:6-11
6 The Lord gives righteousness
and justice to all who are treated unfairly.
7 He revealed his character to Moses
and his deeds to the people of Israel.
8 The Lord is compassionate and merciful,
slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
9 He will not constantly accuse us,
nor remain angry forever.
10 He does not punish us for all our sins;
he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.
11 For his unfailing love toward those who fear him
is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.
Eph 4:26
“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,
James 1:19
19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,

Tim Keller on Anger

• Note that God reveals himself as slow to anger. Its OK to get angry. To be like God, however, we need to do it slowly and at the right things.
• Anger is not the opposite of love; hate is and the ultimate form of hate is indifference
• Anger has a basic goodness. In this form is it response to love being threatened.
• What do we get angry about? There’s our loves and maybe our idols.
• On the flip side, what are things that should be getting angry about but don’t?
• In Mark 11, Jesus got angry about sin in the temple keeping Gentiles away from God. Yet, in his anger we are told he began to teach the people. He was in control of himself the entire time.

Mosey’d a very short distance to the strip mall.  Split into two teams.  Flipped a coin to see who started with a run.  Then flipped 3 coins and counted heads to see how many laps the team ran around the strip mall.  While Team 1 runs, Team 2 works through the exercise stack together.  When Team 1 finishes laps, Team 2 stops where they are, flips coins, and runs while Team 1 starts work.  When a team finishes the stack, they get a cone and start over.  Keep going until a team wins 3 cones.

John 2 (NLT) – The Wedding at Cana

2 The next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. 3 The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.”
4 “Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.”
5 But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
6 Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons. 7 Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled, 8 he said, “Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions.
9 When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. 10 “A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!”
11 This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him.
12 After the wedding he went to Capernaum for a few days with his mother, his brothers, and his disciples.

You are Never Alone by Max Lucado

“Of all the needs of the people in the planet, why would _____ matter? Simple. It mattered to Jesus because it mattered to Mary. If Jesus was willing to use divine clout to solve a social faux pas, how much more willing would he be to intervene on the weightier matters in life?”

“He wants you to know that you can take your needs – all your needs – to him. Phil 4:6 ‘Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.'”

Joyous Ascent of Mt. Jucomanjaro

THE SCENE: Cold bodies but warm hearts.  Hopefully the last morning of freezing temps for a while…
F3 WELCOME & DISCLAIMER
WARM-O-RAMA:

  • Cherry Pickers
  • Hairy Rockettes
  • Motivators (sort of…)
  • Baby arm circles

THA-THANG:
Our joyous group of HIMs dutifully followed Data to the base of Jucomanjaro via a wrong turn.  Data doesn’t know how to lead a Q well but does know how to search Google.  A 2019 back-blast by Spotter (that’s what you get for posting these 🙂 led to us pairing up for the following:

  • One HIM performs 10xMerkins, 10xSquats, 10xLBC while the other HIM bear crawls up JUCOmanjaro.
  • HIM performing exercises sprints to catch the bear and they swap places.

Upon summit, we mosey’d back down to JUCO.  Data still didn’t know how to lead a Q, so he turned to YouTube for motivation.  As a result, we enjoyed 30 seconds each of the following:

  • Ratchet squats
  • Shoulder tap Carolina dry docks
  • Power ups
  • Pounding trunk lifts
  • Bridge & reach overs
  • Crab rockettes
  • Swimming supermans
  • Merkin toe taps
  • Imperial walkers

MARY:
Once at the flag, there was still time for a few squat burpees and hello dollies.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

Similar to the Olympics, the Isthmian games were held in Corinth every 2 years.  We think the apostle Paul was there for the games in AD51.  Who knows, he might have been a sports fan.  Here are some athletic allusions he used when writing to first century churches:

1 Cor 9: 24 Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

Phil 3: 12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

1 Tim 4: 6 If you explain these things to the brothers and sisters, Timothy, you will be a worthy servant of Christ Jesus, one who is nourished by the message of faith and the good teaching you have followed. 7 Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives’ tales. Instead, train yourself to be godly. 8 “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” 9 This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it. 10 This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers.

The Christian life is disciplined, committed, thinking, and worthwhile.  (Special gratitude to Mark Smith, preacher at Laurel church of Christ for the Isthmian games history.)
