CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
I have had something on my heart recently that often comes back around. I am sure we all think often about the examples we set for those around us. A lot of times these are not intentional because they aren’t planned…they just happen because someone is watching. I heard a song on the radio in the morning yesterday as I was driving to work. It was “Watching you” by Rodney Atkins. In this song, he lists a couple of examples that he inadvertently sets for his son. One of them was a four letter word that he let slip and another was his prayer for help to be a better example. His son witnessed both and mimicked his dad because he wanted to be just like him. This got me thinking about the example that I set for my children. Do I let things slip and is this the only type of example that I show? Or do I intentionally show an example that I would be proud to have my children follow?

“Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6 NASB1995

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

“I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. So, for my part, I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” – Romans 1:14‭-‬16 NASB1995

“I am not ashamed” stands out to me in this passage. I have found myself on several occasions shying away from opportunities to show my faith as if I don’t want people to know who I really am. It is hard for some, including myself, to stand-up for the truth. It is very possible that we may reach someone just by doing that very thing.

COUNT-OFF & NAME-O-RAMA

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, you will know them by their fruits.” – Matthew 7:15‭-‬20 NASB1995

Are we good trees or bad trees? Regardless of our intentions, we are producing fruit in our lives. This is a reminder to be aware of how we conduct ourselves. We also need to surround ourselves with good influences. Our examples and the example we set for others have a big impact and can result in eternal consequences.

MOLESKIN:

“Now it happened one day that he went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the household was there inside. She caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me!” And he left his garment in her hand and fled, and went outside.” – Genesis 39:11‭-‬12 NASB1995

Joseph was tempted by Potiphar’s wife daily to betray his master and sin against God. Joseph tried to avoid the temptation by staying away, but she persisted to the point of grabbing him by his clothes. Joseph knew the only way to resist was to literally turn the other way and run.

No matter what temptation we may encounter, use the example of Joseph and run away from it!

“Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” – James 1:2‭-‬4 NASB1995

This is definitely one of my favorite passages, but it is tough. We are instructed here to consider it joyful to encounter trials. These trials have a purpose: to perfect our faith. Perfected faith results in a heavenly home when our life on earth is over. So, sometimes life is hard, but if we endure, our faith will be perfected.

MOLESKIN:
