COT
Say You’re About It – Be About It
Here are the highlights from the Word today. danhenson.substack.com/p/f3-word-11525.

– We’re here to challenge and encourage each other, work hard, and push each other to be better men for ourselves, our families, our friends, and our spheres of influence.
– My hope is that when you show up to an F3 workout (wherever that might be), you are challenged and encouraged in your Fitness Fellowship and Faith. Just as Paul encouraged Titus in leading by example in speech, conduct, and work – we should do the same thing with each other.
– Cut out the negativity, complaining, putting down others, inappropriate and over the line mumblechatter – we don’t have time for that garbage and it’s exhausting. We’re here to work hard together + maximize the time we have during a workout (45 minutes, 60 minutes, whatever).
– Our environment and surroundings should not dictate or character, conduct, and discipline, or the ability to work hard.
– The same methodology applies to the mission of F3: to plant grow and serve small workout groups for men for the invigoration of male community leadership. If we say that we’re about that mission – let’s be about that mission.
– If we say we’re about this life of High Impact Manhood – let’s be about it. Our wives, families, friends, and communities we are a part of need us to be.
– Be challenged and encouraged that you have it what it takes to be the HIM you were called to be – with the guidance of God and the help of each other. Get after it brother. Iron Sharpens Iron!

COT:

Message: Thoughts for 2025:
1. Lose yourself and focus on God and others. In so doing you will find who God intends you to be.
2. Consider these words from James 1 2-4: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking of anything.
3. If you find you are anxious remember that anxiety is normal, it impacts all of us. But, know that God is there for you and will help you handle your trials. Give your anxiety to God.

Prayers:

Pray for Lizzy’s father-in-law, Ralph who has both cancer and dementia. Pray for his family members who are caring for them that they may have love and patience during a very difficult time. Pray for those impacted by the recent plane crashes.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Hot Toddy Quadruple Q (Quoddy Toddy) next Saturday!!
COT:
So I used this same Q on the evening of the January 6 riot at the Capitol in 2020 because I wanted to do something collaborative, where we work towards a common goal. And I’m doing it again today because we need more of that as a nation, because right now, guys, we are still a broken and lost community.

COOPERATION: I find that activities like what we did today, where guys of different perspectives on life collaborate and cooperate and work together, are very important these days. As the saying goes, Team Work Makes the Dream Work. I didn’t always get to do the exercise I wanted at several points in the workout, but my group did, or it needed to be done reach our goal. I’m sure the same goes for all of you. But there’s something satisfying and dare I say FUN in doing a task together and accomplishing something. If more HIMs around this country would embrace that mentality, I think we would be a much stronger nation.

ACCOUNTABILITY: The second concept that I think this workout exemplifies is accountability. If we didn’t reach our goal, we held ourselves accountable and did the punishment exercise. We talk about accountability a lot in F3, and I think that’s a real strength of this group. Whether it’s giving a shout out to a Brother who hasn’t posted in a while, or hasn’t Q’d recently (Thanks for the call-out, Crawdad!), or guys that participate in Shield Locks, or do a weight loss challenge, or whatever, we hold each other and ourselves accountable. Because without holding each other and our colleagues and fellow citizens accountable for their actions, it is much easier to slack off, break the rules, not make those hard decisions and take those difficult actions that help everyone, including yourself.

SO COOPERATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY. Those are the two concepts I wanted to focus on in the workout and my Word. Those are two things that I think are important to being a HIM and an effective Leader, and two things that are sadly lacking in today’s society.

They Can’t Take That Away from Me
2024 was a year of loss and destruction for many people out in East Tennessee and Western North Carolina due to the almost unimaginable flooding and disaster caused by Hurricane Helene. It was horrific to see people losing their homes, their cars, their furnishings, and much of the belongings that they had saved for a lifetime.
As I approach retirement, I couldn’t help but think, “What if that was me?” Jan and I have saved part of our earnings each year through our working years, putting it in good ol IRAs. As we approach retirement we feel that we have enough savings to get by on. But what if that savings were to go away? What if our economy goes downhill and our stock market plummets? What if we lose our assets and home through some unforeseen disaster? Events like Hurricane Helene show us just how possible that can be.
There is a song that has come to my mind quite a few times related to all this. Some of you guys may know that song by Ira and George Gershwin called “They Can’t Take That Away From Me.”
Some of the lines go like this”
The way you wear your hat
The way you sip your tea
The memory of all that
No, no, they can’t take that away from me
The way your smile just beams
The way you sing off-key
The way you haunt my dreams
No, no, they can’t take that away from me.

Those are all things that money can’t buy. I guess that’s why the song has stuck in my mind. If I lost all my assets, what would I have? How about you guys? If you lost your possessions, what would you have? For me, I would still have the love of my wife and children. I would still be able go to my church and see my church family. As for tithing’s, 10% of nothing is nothing, so that would be fine! I would still get to see you brothers in F3. This incredible bond and experience we have is Free 99, baby! And, I would still have my Lord above. In fact, if they were to take everything I have and lay my head down in a guillotine, I might be shaking in my boots and crying my eyes out but I would still have my Lord above.

I encourage you to think about and ponder what “THEY”, that ubiquitous word for disaster in scenarios like we are talking about, can’t take away from you. As for me, I would hope I could survive disasters knowing that there are some things that money can’t buy, some things worth so much more than money or even earthly existence, some things they cannot take away from me.
