Word

– Star Wars is the classic melodrama: Good guys wear white and bad guys wear black. You know who’s who from the start of a scene. Han Solo is the one exception: he wears black over white. He starts out as a bad guy: selfish, obsessed with money, and only looks out for number one. However, he undergoes a change during the movie; the classic protagonist. At the end of Episode IV A New Hope, after fleeing with his reward, he returns dramatically to save Luke and help destroy the Death Star cementing his place in the Rebel Alliance.

– The journey of Han is an example of coming of age. Look back at yourself as a child and a youth. Were you selfish, obsessed with money, and only looking out for number one? At what point did this start to change for you? When did you start to love sacrificially? Look at your children. Do you see Han Solo in them? Teach them diligently and with patience. With God’s grace, they too may return to dramatically save the day and cement their place in the Rebel Alliance of life.

Money is necessary, but we must be careful about our relationship with it. As Paul points out, money is not the root of evil, but the Love of money. This requires constant regrounding and cross checking. In my experience, one of the most helpful actions you can take to support a healthy relationship with money is to make giving your top priority.

COT:
The Barkley Marathons just finished up a couple of weeks ago with no finishers. Any long distance race requires a lot of training to be able to reach the finish line. These are endurance races, not sprints. Our lives are also not a sprint. The author of Hebrews has some words in spiritual endurance.
Hebrews 12:1-3 NASB1995
[1] Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, [2] fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. [3] For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Sin is one of those things that can slow us down and prevent us from reaching our spiritual goals. I encourage you to keep training! Build your endurance so that you may finish the race.
2 Timothy 4:7-8 NASB1995
[7] I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; [8] in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.
