“And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭9:27-29‬ ‭ESV‬‬
Why would anyone ask God to do something and not believe He could do it? Why would Jesus ask them that question? He was standing right in front of them, they knew He had healed others, why wouldn’t they believe that He was able to do it?

How does this play out with us? We just don’t bother asking. We go about life doing our own thing. We all know the scripture “God helps those who help themselves,” right? Except that’s not a scripture, it’s an old Greek teaching popularized by Ben Franklin. Start inviting Him into your daily decision making…and see what happens. When you come up against a big one, and you hear the question echo through your mind, “do you believe I can do this”…lean in

The Merdipkin 11’s were brutal, but the men hammered it out…just about left me in the dust. The hard work in the cool with a storm threatening the entire time was the definition of working in the gloom.

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”
Psalms 1:1-3

The key here is that the tree bears its fruit in season, not every second of every day and not before it is ready. Faithfulness usually takes time. Just because you don’t see fruit yet doesn’t mean you won’t, it just means you need to keep it up and be faithful. Don’t get caught up with the jokers and the smokers…delight in the Lord and His word and you’ll see change.

I want to challenge you all to be Meek men, Abraham Lincoln said Meekness is not weakness- it is strength under control. Christ said blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the of the earth.

The word meekness always has an association with domesticated animals which I’ve never been crazy about, but when I think about it, an ox hooked to the plow isn’t weak but incredibly powerful because its strength is harnessed for a particular purpose.
Commit your way to the Lord, trust in him and he will act. There are stories about prisoners in Nazi camps who were made to move heavy boulders from one end of a field to the other, only to carry them back again, many of the men were eventually driven crazy, not by the physical toll on the body but by the futility of the task. The apostle Paul says that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
Don’t waste your strength aimlessly pushing boulders around the prison yard. Let’s stand strong as brothers for God and see what God can do with our harnessed strength.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.Want to focus on the part about “two can defend themselves”. As men, we are constantly attacked by the world: lures of power, greed, money, lust….are everywhere. While most of us don’t like to talk about our feelings or our struggles I encourage each member of the PAX to lean on each other in times of need. Chances are one of us has dealt with your problem at some point and can help. It’s biblical in marriage and in friendships – 2 are stronger than 1. That means holding each other accountable – even when it’s hard. If we want to be true men of impact that means we sometimes have to do the hard thing and look a brother in the eye and let him know he’s making a mistake. Let’s use that to our advantage and help lift our brothers up who need it today.

These shoes.
These are my Ragnar shoes.
Bought on sale at Academy sports.
Took me farther than I ever ran before.
And still my feet hurt.
Because it was not the shoes that took me through the race, it was the group of men I ran with that pushed me to finish the race. It was not only their strength and encouragement but their faith and belief in me that I wouldn’t let them down. For example, I was waiting to get started on my 3rd leg, the longest leg I ran in the race, and the leg I was the most worried about going into the race. As I was getting ready to leave I looked over and all 3 of my teammates were on the phone talking to their wives. And what struck me is not that they were on the phone, or not pumping me up, but that they had the confidence in me to finish this leg without problem. They didn’t need to cheer me know because they already knew I was going to do it, even though I didn’t know it.  But they knew I wouldn’t let them down. As I was midway through the leg and realizingI hated running, and at that point life and everything else, their confidence in me kicked in and helped me through. In turn it was the same confidence and faith I had in them to finish their legs of the race.

Well I tell you this, it is the same faith and belief that God wants us to have in Him. Unfailing, unwavering belief that He is behind us pushing us to go forward, arms out to catch us when we fall, and  also in front of us leading the way. He has a plan for us, and when we put our faith in Him, He will do great things.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight” Proverbs 3:5
