AO: genesis-ruck
Q: Mermaid
PAX: Steam, Mermaid
FNGs: None
COUNT: 2
WARMUP:
The warmup was carrying our ruck, and 2 sandbags, (40 & 60lbs) to the pavilion.
THE THANG:
We set a timer for 36 minutes. There were six exercises set at 50 seconds each with a 10 second transition in between each exercise. There were 6 rounds. This is nice because can control the intensity, and go at your own pace. You have a timer, so no counting is needed, and you can have some great fellowship while you get your butt kicked.
MARY:
After the beatdown, we had time to ruck up and around the trade route and moto hill, and we finished with some calf stretches on the curb as time expired.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:

COT:
The F’s in order. Fitness, Fellowship, and Faith. The Q Source lists them in that order, and even though you would think Faith should be first, the Q Source argues that you have to learn to deny yourself and train yourself so that you can be more receptive to the 2nd and 3rd F. My prayer/struggle right now is to do better at denying my lack of self control in the area of food. My inability to control that has a direct impact on my relationship with God. If I can’t deny myself, then I am selfish, and less effective in leadership, and that becomes an impediment to following God. It all starts with us, and if we are in the way by not exhibiting self control, then we are less effective followers of Christ, and less effective leaders.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.

What’s in a last name anyways?

Nice casual ruck. Had to be there.

COT: do you ever really stop to listen in an argument or are you too focused on your response and trying to win? Sometimes you need to stop and receive what the other person is saying and really listen.

I challenge myself and everyone else in our group to stop taking potential F3 friendships for granted. I’ve known some of you guys for a long time and yet I don’t really know who some of you are. It starts with (me) or yourself to decide if you’re gonna be part of a friend group that meets up to work out in the mornings to face a challenge together and grow. Move out of the shallow and swim to the deep.

The is morning we took Virtuous Leadership on the road. We started at 0600 and kept the cadence of our Sunday morning meeting. We met at the Victory lodge at Wafloy Mountain Retreat. This was during the Forg3 retreat where we studied Virtuous Leadership in the context of q.1 get right, q.2 live right, q.3 lead right, and q.4 leave right.

We did our study of LDP (the leadership development process) as a lead in to studying lead right with Borg . The LDP focuses on another acronym SAOF which stands for:

Schooling – essentially what we are doing with Virtuous Leadership
Apprenticeship- once you have been educated, you work alongside someone who is a leader
Opportunity- you get to practice being a leader
Failure- you have to fail or “court minor disaster” in order to improve leadership. Essentially learn through a series of mistakes.

We were a little slow and sleep deprived to get started. But as per the usual, this was another highly impactful meeting that even with a location change and new faces, we still managed to enlightening conversation that sharped iron.

As guys woke up, our numbers grew and we had lots of participation towards the end. We discuss the SAOF approach and how it applied to being a leader at work and especially with our kids.

Two quotes from Dr Brad Greene who I listened to in a leadership presentation this week.

“We can waste time, but time is never wasted”

When we are empowering a new leader, it takes time and feels like a waste because we can do it faster and easier. But that investment is not wasted time in the long run when you have developed a new leader.

“Fail cheaply”

When I asked Dr Greene about the best way to train a young leader, like my kids, as they don’t teach leadership directly in college. His reply was that kids, or new leaders need to be provided opportunities to fail cheaply. A brand new driver doesn’t need and expensive sports car or luxury vehicle. When the inevitable car accident, bad parking job, or fender bender occurs, that is the opposite of failing cheaply.

Today was an amazing morning, and I am a better man for sharing the insights we had this morning.
