THE THANG:
Steam took us down to the track to do 11s with Merkins at one end and Butterfly sit ups, then passed it over to Pele.

Pele led the PAX on a mosey to the back parking lot of the school and talked about some of the finer points of planning and structuring a workout. Then we did a Quarter Pounder (four cones, do 25 Merkins at first, 50 Squats and second, 75 Mountain Climbers at third, and 100 SSH at last, returning back to first cone each time).

Moseyed back to flag, demonstrating a Wagon Wheel to let the 6 catch up. Did DORAs on the sloped road with one partner running down to a tree, doing 5 SSH, then returning with partner doing exercises, then switch off. Exercises were 50 Carolina Dry Docks, 50 Jump Squats before we ran out of time.

Mosey to flag.
MARY:
Did some Core exercises to demonstrate how the Mary can be used to fill up the time until the 45 minutes are over.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:

COT:
Talked about how the Word and Prayer are often the biggest barriers for guys Q’ing the first time. Discussed the fact that this doesn’t have to be a long speech, or something terribly impressive, just speak from the heart, be positive and encouraging, and you’ll be just fine. Steam led us out with prayer.

COT:
As some of you know, I’m the executor or my parent’s estate. It sucks. My biggest issue, the one that literally keeps me awake at night, is trying to keep my brother and sister happy. We all started on the same page. But this process has become all about my siblings. And I never think of myself. Which is wrong.
How many of you like this workout? I DON’T CARE. I had fun and pushed myself. I have to learn to take that approach to things. I’m not saying be selfish. Or an ass. But sometimes you have to be selfish. You need to think of yourself.

Care about what other people think and you will always be their prisoner. Lao Tzu
The only thing wrong with trying to please everyone is that there’s always at least one person who will remain unhappy. You. Elizabeth Parker

COT
Notes & takeaways from a portion of GrowSchool
(From GTE-46 (SEND ME))

1. What is your “F3 story?”
1. This matters!
2. Not only do people outside of F3 need to hear this as you EH them, but it’s also important to remind ourself and other men in F3 of this story — it helps us better understand each other and how F3 has changed our lives.
1. Rightness is a process – not a destination
2. f3nation.com/get-right-q1/ — The Pursuit of Personal Alignment
1. Commitment to the DRP (Daily Red Pill)
2. King — Fitness
1. Fatigue makes cowards of us all
2. No one cares what you can do when you’re fresh – it’s the level of integrity that you execute at when you’re smoked and tired that fights against the quote above
3. This is a daily discipline of the body
1. Queen — your “put in the body” discipline
1. Typically viewed from a nutritional perspective (diet, etc.)
2. But broaden the scope to include anything you are consuming – physically, mentally, emotionally, relationally, spiritually, etc.
3. Your King can’t outwork your Queen
1. If I workout 7x a week but have a terrible diet, it doesn’t matter how hard I’m working
1. Your King and Queen are intrinsically related and connected
1. Jester — temptation of the flesh
1. anything. that hinders the acceleration of your King, Queen, Fitness, Fellowship, and Faith.

Message:
On this day of our celebration of America’s independence I have some quotes for you that reflect the principles our nation was found on. When I reflect on great American quotes I think of “Give me liberty or give me death” by Patrick Henry or “Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country” by John F. Kennedy. But here are five more quotes, not all by Americans, that reflect on America and it’s principles:
True patriotism springs from a belief in the dignity of the individual, freedom and equality not only for Americans but for all people on earth. –Eleanor Roosevelt
1.
Freedom is nothing but a chance to be better. – Albert Camus
1.
In America, nobody says you have to keep the circumstances that somebody else gives you. – Amy Tan.
1.
We are a nation of many nationalities, many races, many religions – bound together by a single unity, the unity of freedom and equality. – Franklin D. Roosevelt
1.
I think of a hero as someone who understands the degree of responsibility that comes with his freedom. – Bob Dylan
1.
Patriotism is easy to understand in America. It means looking out for yourself by looking out for your country. – Calvin Coolidge
1.
When thinking of that last quote, I think particularly of our military veterans who have fought to keep our country free. That freedom gives us “the chance to be better” like Camus says. It comes with responsibility as Dylan proclaims. And because of our freedom, as Tan states, we don’t “have to keep the circumstances that somebody else gives” us.

WARMUP: Lily started us off with some good ol’ stretching exercises that were borderline The Thang, include Curly Stomps, Tempo Squats, and Tempo Merkins! Pele Sweat Level: (PSL) Moderate already…

THE THANG: Lily took us to the new workout area, preliminarily called LA Beach. We did stations there and ran in the parking lot between sets. Switched off to Pusher, who started us moseying before Ol’ Pele was back from the end of the lot. PSL: Severe

Pusher took us up Pickett’s Charge, doing something painful at the bottom of each hill. Can’t remember, since I was beginning to become dehydrated and starting to hallucinate. We did some things with rocks and cones, though, as I recall, and ran around the Colosseum area until it was time to pass it off to….

PELE! Finally! My turn had arrived. Put down an insurrection that was attempting to hijack the Q and have us go up Everest to show it off to Mouth to Mouth, who was DR from GA. Nope. Not enough time to do that (or was there?… we’ll never know…). Did Route 66 (Peter Parkers) to Pav-a-Lon. Then did some PT sets, running around the building and then the parking lot until Time. PSL: Critical flow. Everything soaked. Everything…

MARY: Did some Homer/Marge and Hello dollies mixed in. Stretching until time. PSL: Pruning up from stewing in own sweat.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: UnCOVEred July 13 at the Cove. Fourth of July Asylum PM workout at 9 am, with Board Meeting and Soccer Taco lunch to follow. Come one come all.

COT: Talked about the importance of joy and humor by recounting some funny F3 stories. PSL: Formed a substantial sweat puddle in the prayer from sweat dripping off head. Also was unknowingly giving Snitch a form of Chinese Sweat Torture from sweat dripping on his arm in the circle. :face_holding_back_tears:
