Remember Cap’n Crunches words about the Redwood Trees.  As tall as they are, one would think their roots go down at least 100 ft into the ground.  Yet, their roots may only go down 6 to 12 feet.  Yet these trees are sturdy and strong.  What makes them so strong?  Their roots connect to the roots of other Redwoods.  These trees stand mighty because they hold each other up.  Men, let us be mighty in the same way.  We cannot do these workouts without each other. We are HIM’s because we have each other’s backs.  Iron Sharpens Iron!!!!

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
One of the inspiring F3 sayings is “I have your six.”  G-6 talked about the isolated man at our last 3rd F event.  As a psychologist, I have met many isolated men who do not feel anyone has their back.  Their confidence and zest for life are low because of it.  As humans, we need to feel support from others, know that others are there for us.  That knowledge gives us the courage to take chances, to fail, get back up, push on and finally succeed.  You see toddlers needing that support from parents when they explore.  The toddlers explore with pleasure but also look back to make sure their parents are there, are looking on, have their sixes.  As F3 brothers, lets take the “I have your six” saying as a model to commit to others, to build them up, give them courage.  We are HIMs in our workouts and out in the world.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.

-Ghandi

I can sometimes lose sight of what I’m working towards. Throughout the year I have to refocus myself because I’ve strayed from the path I wanted to be on. Whether because of some new shiney thing distracting me off to the side or because I backslid on my habits. I don’t have trouble making fitness and fun thing habits. Where I struggle to find my destiny is in work. Sometimes I just feel like I’m on cruise control and not actively thinking, acting and making habits. I think the hardest place to make habits and form our destiny is in the things that we like to do the least. Take some time this week to think of some place in your life you know you need to be taking care of business but haven’t been able to shape that destiny by making good habits toward that end. Make a gameplan to get it done.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
Through F3 we learn that it takes commitment, discipline and encouragement to achieve our goal of becoming healthier men.  In our relationship with God, we also need commitment, discipline and encouragement.  If we want to grow closer to God, we should not just sit around and wait for it to happen.  Jesus says in Matthew 16:24, “if anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross to follow me.”  We must discipline and push ourselves through solitude time with God, through reading scripture, through prayer, through worship.  And while solitude time with God is important, we also need encouragement.  That comes through spending time in worship with our brothers and sisters.  As Jesus said, He is there “wherever two or more are gathered in my name.”

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

Many men claim they want to be Men of Honor.  We almost intuitively know what it means.  But as humans we fall short.  Authors of novels often create heroes that are incredible examples of Honorable Men.  Yet, these same authors fall way short in terms of being the heroes they created in their stories.  We could all write a story about an honorable man – we need to try to be the hero that we would create in our own story.  Wake up each day giving effort to become the Honorable Man that you yourself have created in your own mind.  We begin to do that by:

  • Making the effort to go to F3 Beat Downs.
  • Enriching our minds and hearts by attending worship services.
  • Smiling when we come home to family, even after a hard day when we do not feel like smiling.
  • Giving credence to the unique wonder of each person we see and talk to.
  • Place love above money and power.
  • Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
