CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

“You’ve got to ask for faith every day. You have to read about those people who exercised faith. You have to read the Scriptures.” –Mother Mary Angelica. Mother Angelica was a Roman Catholic nun of the poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration. She founded the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) in Birmingham, Alabama in 1981. This quote from Mother Angelica hit me hard yesterday because I have to remember to choose faith daily. In F3, the Fitness is the easiest part for me in that I can get up and meet my brothers in the Gloom. Fellowship is the next easiest, but still difficult. I love the Fellowship that pre-rucks and beatdowns give, and most of you know that I love the fact that Slack offers continual communication with the PAX of F3Knoxville outside of the Gloom, but the 2nd F can still be difficult for me in that I sometimes forget to be that friend that many men need me to be. Not only to be present and reachable but also to be there to listen when needed.

The 3rd F, Faith is the most difficult for me. I can’t meaningfully go on “auto-pilot” with my faith. I have to actively choose my faith. I have to actively read my devotions, say my prayers, and be present for God.

Some Reps and Some Running

THE SCENE: Low 40s with strong wind, so chilly.
F3 WELCOME & DISCLAIMER
WARM-O-RAMA:

307th day of the year, 58 remaining

SSHs (4 ct) x 30

Little baby arm circles forward (4 ct) x 15

Little baby arm circles backward (4 ct) x 15

Some Michael Phelps and little of this and a little of that

School Zone showed up late, so 5 burpees.

School Zone said that he intentionally missed the SSHs because he figured that we would do 50 of them.  He was probably joking about all or some of that.  Still . . .

SSHs (4 ct) x 70

THA-THANG:
Mosey to the flag pole

100 merkins followed by one lap around the track

100 merkins and 200 LBCs followed by two laps around the track

100 merkins, 200 LBCs, and 300 squats followed by three laps around the track

That was as far as the rabbits made it before time ran out, so no one made it to 100 merkins, 200 LBCs, 300 squats, and 400 CDDs followed by four laps.  Maybe next time or perhaps an hour-long Saturday workout.

Mosey back to the AO

MARY:
We held plank for the minute or so that we had left.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
I read the lyrics to the song “Fearless” by the Goo Goo Dolls (I did not sing).  I won’t repeat them here, but listen to the song or read the lyrics if you are not familiar.  John Rzeznik has said that the song was inspired by the anxious state of 21st-century America and the fear-mongering media.  It was released in 2019.  The lyrics resonate even more now.  As the song says, we are living in an unfair and scared world, so we need to be fearless and let our light shine.  See 2 Timothy 1:7 (“For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.”).

MOLESKIN:
Prayers for Ribbed’s wife, Blindside’s family with the loss of his uncle and his grandmother’s cancer diagnosis, the Q’s daughter, and the strength to be fearless in the world.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

I have heard over the years that the time you are 33 years old is often called your “Jesus Year.” The ‘Jesus Year’ is age 33, the year that scholars generally believe Jesus of Nazareth was probably arrested and crucified in Jerusalem after starting a spiritual, political, and intellectual revolution. I have often heard people talk about “What they are going to accomplish either before or during their Jesus Year.

Once I hit 30, I started thinking about my Jesus Year. At 30 I was running regularly and losing weight consistently. I had several major goals for my Jesus Year, but one of them was to run a full marathon before or during the time I was 33. Seeing as I turn 34 tomorrow, I don’t know if I am going to make that goal. Once I realized that I wasn’t going to make that goal a few months ago, I got a little down. I was discouraged and upset with myself. I was looking at the negatives of my life, not the positives.

During my Jesus Year, I have been promoted twice at work, ending with a dream job that I absolutely love. I started F3 and not only got back into focusing on my fitness but brought me a whole new passion and zeal for my faith and gave me a brotherhood of men I didn’t even know I needed in my life.

Sometimes we focus too much on the negatives. We focus on what others are accomplishing. We focus on the goals we didn’t achieve. Don’t fall into the trap of “Keeping up with the Joneses.” Frankly, trying to do that breaks one of the 10 Commandments. When we compare ourselves to others, when we stack our failures against the successes of others, we are coveting our neighbor’s goods rather than focusing on the good in our own lives.

Encouragement to pray for our leaders. In all the news, discussion, opinions, complaints, etc… the clear command in Scripture is for us to pray for them.

1 Timothy 2:1-6 — First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivingsbe made for all people, vfor kings and all who are in high positions, that we maylead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and wdignified in every way. This is good, and xit ispleasing in the sight of yGod our Savior, who desires zall people to be saved and atocome to bthe knowledge of the truth. For cthere is one God, and there is one mediatorbetween God and men, the man1 Christ Jesus, dwho gave himself as a ransom for all, which is ethe testimony given fat the proper time.

2 Timothy 4:3-4 – For there will come a time when men will not put up with sound doctrine.  Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.  They will turn away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

Romans 12:2 – do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind
MOLESKIN:
Don’t look to the things of this world for comfort, satisfaction, or any other type of fulfillment; and stay away from echo chambers – they are the way of the world, not of God.

I shared this quote at Dogpound a few weeks ago, but it’s applicable every day and worth sharing again

“If we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too week.  We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea.  We are far too easily pleased.”
