Grab a coupon/CMU and mosey to Rec Center Hill.   One PAX run to top of hill and do a burpees while rest try to avoid counting while doing exercises until they return.   Start new exercise and next PAX run.   Q had a few suggestions and then passed the run around.   Good mumble chatter while trying not to count, harder to do then you would think.   Puns were provided in appropriate fashion, Data would have been proud.

Remember to say yes.  For me, most fulfilling times as a father are when our family and kids are laughing and having fun together.   Most of the time this happens as a random request to play a game or throw a ball or go get ice cream, etc.   As my kids have grown and reality sinks in of our remaining time together dwindles, I am more convicted then ever to make sure I say yes and try to prioritize quality time with each of my children regardless what that might be.  We still play hide and go seek in the dark and enjoy trying to scare each other.    The requests have changed over the years but my hearts desire to say yes hasn’t.  When looking in the mirror at time that has gone by nothing really was more important then making sure your children felt prioritized and valued.

Some guys and I at work were talking the other day how the appliance manufacturers have perfected the art of making disposable appliances.   I am sure we all have made the decision that the fridge/washer/dryer/dish washer has lived 7 years – I have recessitated from death 2 or 3 times how many more times do we want to perform CPR and sink another 100 bucks in replacement parts and countless hours on YouTube before we give up and replace it.

While on vacation in Roanoke we rode our bikes past an art murial that was colorful and had the words “Broke crayons still color”.   I put on the brakes and admired the art but also let the words sink in.   Broke crayons still color.    Yeah we want to be the sharp crayon straight out of a new box but life doesn’t work that way.   We all are broke crayons in one way or another.  But the blessing is in God’s eye we still color.   We aren’t ready to be thrown away and replaced.   We still have purpose and will be used in his redemptive story if we let him.   While we don’t always see it in the moment we all have come through those times we’re we were grateful he still had a use for our broke crayon.

WARM-O-RAMA:

Eased Fingerfood back into it with a little reach for the sky and let it hang.   Threw in some baby arm circles forward and back.   Dropped for something new called countdown low plank or something like that.   Held plank and then dropped to 6” low plank hold for 10 count, back up then down for 9 count, etc.   Finished with some Windmills.  By that time Houndog had arrived and we knew it was time to get on with it.

THAT Thang:

Mosey across HV road stopping in front of AnytimeFitness for a few side plank dips, continued our journey over to Mt Juconte.   Started at bottom and gave it all she got to get to the top of the 13.3% grade.   At the top found a few transported coupons and did some curls into overhead presses.   On way back down did a little Route 66 with some Derkins at each tree.   Finished up with 20 Heels to Heaven at the bottom.

Rinse and repeat with Squat Thrusters up top, Squats on Route 66, and Box Cutters on round 2.   Round 3 was again back up…bench press / skull crusher combo, with SSH Route 66 back down and Big Boys to recover.   We were having to much fun at that point that not even Erector would join for Round 4.   But everyone else did as we finished back up top with coupons swings, Monkey Humpers on Route 66 and maybe some other AB work or maybe not..can’t quite remember.   Headed back to the “flag” and waited at the light for everyone in HV to drive by missing out on any extra Mary

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

Two biggest lies in America….the first one is by clicking this box I acknowledge that I have read and agree to the terms and conditions listed above and number two is our answer to the question “How are you?”  As men especially I think it is easy to hide and avoid sharing feelings, weakness, or hurt.   I am not good about it either, typically because I feel what I am going through is minuscule compared to the challenges of others.   But I do also think it is good to honestly answer that question too as it allows others to be open about their feelings too, especially when you know they are in a rough season.   But I specifically want to do a better job about reaching out to friends that I know are hurting.   Just as we remember birthdays…we also need to remember sad days / challenging times in our friends lives and acknowledge and reach out to them to let them know it’s okay to not be fine on those days too.

Recently Facebook has reminded me about the anniversaries of loved ones lost and the continued grieving of those closest to them.   I want to be a better friend and family member that I don’t rely on Facebook to remember to reach out to my friends on their sad days.   Let’s remember and practice Romans 12:15 on a routine basis.

“Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.”

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
As many of you know last year I started mentoring a 12 yo boy who has a pretty rough situation.   It has been a challenging yet extremely rewarding journey.   Wanted to share a brief story that happened over the holidays that really humbled me.   I received a call from my friend on the day after Christmas saying he needed to goto the bank, but also to not eat anything before I came.   Not knowing what to expect I picked him up a day or two after Christmas and he was as excited as any child I have ever seen because he had a surprise for me.    After running to the bank and cashing his check he finally let me in on his plans.   He wanted to spend his Christmas money by taking us to dinner at Olive Garden.   It was a truly memorable evening and humbling too.   He was proud to tell everyone that he was paying for dinner as he ordered dinner and dessert for us and carry out for his mom.  He was worried he might have spent more than he had but turned out he actually still had a little left over so he asked if we could goto Walmart.   Not because he wanted anything for himself but because he and his friend were having fun making things out of pallet wood and he wanted to get a pair of safety glasses for them and a pair of gloves for his friend.   Couldn’t help but be reminded of the story of the Widow’s two cooper coins offering in Luke 21: 1-4 and how it correlated with this situation.   It was convicting knowing how often I am guilty of giving out of abundance only and miss opportunities to give freely knowing God will always provide.   May we all be freely willing to give not only our money but of our time and energy as well.

The Widow’s Offering

LUKE 21 Jesus[a] looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins.[b] And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

As those that have been around and heard me share over the past year there is normally a common theme where I share where God has used many people in my life to share the same message over and over again until my stubbornness is overcome and I am willingness to stop and listen.   Felt like that happened again this week.   Through the JUCO-Challenge where each day several brothers have been sharing scripture or inspirational messages Kick-Flip the other day shared this quote from Charles Dickens “Reflect upon your present blessings—of which every man has many—not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.”

Probably less than 24 hours later, I watched my wife struggle in pain after having surgery and hear her whisper more or less the same thing.   She said it’s days like these that I realize how much I take for granted just a normal day.   We remember the blessings on the special days, but what about the normal days.    Do we still see the abundance of blessings in the normal days.     A normal day where the sun rises and you wake up warm and dry in a cozy bed, a normal day where there is an abundance of options for what to eat or what to wear, a normal day where you have a job to do and a car to get you there.   A normal day where we are surrounded by friends and family.    I am guilty way too often of taking for granted the normal days.  All across the globe and even in our local Hardin Valley community for many of our neighbors their normal day doesn’t look any like what I described.    Judge has challenged us to step up our game in serving those around us where normal is different.    Let’s rise to the challenge men.   We are called to be different, looks different, act different, love different, serve different.   Remember what Jesus told his disciples in Mark 10:45   “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.””

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Still collecting coats – let’s finish strong – reach out to a few friends, coworkers, neighbors, etc and see what you can gather up for those in need.
