It’s not often you read something insightful and motivational on Facebook these days with all the division we have in this world. I read something the other day though that really struck a chord with me.

“For a long time it had seemed to me that life were about to begin- real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, some debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.”

Alfred D. Souza

“So stop waiting until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have kids, until your kids leave the house, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until your car or home is paid off, until spring, until summer, until winter, until your song comes on, until you’ve had a drink… there is no better time than right now to be happy.”

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

You never know what someone else is going through. God had put a friend on my heart months ago to reach out to. I never did. He stopped by my work yesterday just to say hi. We talked a little and after sending him a text later in the day I found out he was going through a really hard time. He has had some difficulties with his health as well and is in a really tough spot.

You never know what someone else is going through. If you have a gut feeling to check on your friends, then check on them. Ask them how they’re doing. Everyone is fighting their own battles even though there may be a smile on the exterior. Be kind always. Love your neighbor.

I have been lacking self discipline over the course of the past month. I have lacked motivation in all facets of my life. I returned to church Sunday and the message really stuck with me. The message was about Ananias in the Acts of the Apostles. Ananias was told by Jesus to restore Paul’s eyesight and ultimately changed the way he lived. Ananias at first questioned whether this was the right thing to do as Paul had persecuted disciples and sought to inflict harm in those early followers of Jesus. However, Ananias was obedient and put his own questions aside and intervened on the behalf of Paul. Paul later became instrumental in spreading the faith across various regions.

Like Ananias, we sometimes don’t want to do things as we all have our own opinions and beliefs. We should strive to be more like Ananias and do those things we might not want to do and reach people when it may seem like a burden to us. Sometimes the end goal is bigger than ourselves alone and can make quite an impact on others as it did in Paul’s life and all those he reached through his ministry. Who has been an Ananias to you? Who can you be an Ananias to you within your family/ work life?

I grew up loving the Rocky movies. It was the underdog story that really interested me. Recently I was watching a video that referenced Buster Douglas and Mike Tyson fight where Mike Tyson was heavily favored. Mike Tyson was coming into the fight undefeated. Buster Douglas was knocked down in the 8th round of the fight and no one gave him a chance to come back in the fight. He kept swinging and knocked Mike Tyson out/ won the fight in the 10th round. With his back against the wall, knocked down on the mat and the whole world thinking he would lose, he kept swinging and prevailed. When life has us against the ropes and knocks us out, just keep punching because it’s not over.

When asked about what helped him keep going to win the fight, Buster Douglas said his mother gave him the motivation. She had just died but told Buster he would win and knock out Mike Tyson. Just remember there is always someone in your corner standing behind your punches no matter who may not believe in you.

Easter has come and gone. It’s always been one of my favorite holidays. I’ve always been a very stubborn and found it difficult to forgive others who have wronged me in the past. I think this is why I am drawn to Easter because it is a time for forgiveness. Stripped, bound, beaten and crucified, Jesus called for God to forgive those who persecuted him. In times of distress and during the trials of our own lives, may we have the love and resolve to forgive those who have wronged us.

Jesus died on the cross to forgive all humanity of their sins including past, present, and future sins. Although we are imperfect beings, I think we can draw from this act of love and forgiveness. Jesus calls for us to love our enemies and forgive those who have trespassed against us. May we all put our judgement aside and live into this moving forward and become more Christlike.

We are Easter people. Spread the Good News.
