CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

  • Did a Lord of the Rings trilogy this weekend and as you can guess, it was awesome. Huge LOTR fan. I love the Christian symbolism that is portrayed in the trilogy, as well as the 9 or so hours of action and overall story. One of my favorite moments comes from the character of Samwise Gamgee, the main character’s reliable companion:
  • Frodo :
    • I can’t do this, Sam.
  • Sam :
    • I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy. How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened. But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. Because they were holding on to something.
  • Frodo :
    • What are we holding on to, Sam?
  • Sam :
    • That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.

[ This week, a war is being waged against you, against me, against our country and her leaders, against our world. Sometimes this is more tangible than others. ]

  • Consider Ephesians 6:10-20 our epic pre-battle speech as we ride out to the enemy and meet him head on this week.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.”

Ephesians 6:10-20

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

  • I feel like God has been tapping on my shoulder pretty intentionally in ways that I can only explain as divine appointment.
  • When you feel that, when you are, uh, awakened to that tapping or divine call, will you take it?
  • I’ve wrestled with mine for a couple weeks because it regards my job and the list goes on and on.
  • With that I’ve isolated myself. We talk a lot in F3 about the isolated male.
  • When you feel that calling or divine appointment, bring others into the fold and share that with them.
  • I guarantee any one of us are more than willing to walk with you in that.

  • What I was vaguely referring to up above in my word is this: 2 weeks ago I met with the YMCA of East TN COO. She was asking how my new role with the Downtown YMCA was going, thanks to the Knoxville Fellows. I told her I was enjoying it, but there was not a lot of concrete structure – it was more a shadowing/figuring it out on your own. And with this new role at the Y, which seems pretty unclear at times, I feel like there are all these things that I want to do to benefit members and add more value to the Y than “just being a gym.” One thing that the Lord has put on my heart within the past month is the idea of going deeper at work than just surface-level membership questions and support. More specifically, leading a bible-study or small-group, or book-study. After all, this is the Young Men’s Christian Association, and I feel a charge to bring back some light that I feel we as an organization have lost (a little).
  • When my COO brought up the idea of bringing back a bible study, etc into the Downtown Y – i knew that’s what the Lord had put on my heart. I could clearly hear His voice through my COO.
  • Fast forward to the next Monday: my direct boss was away and I was in his office, 10 minutes into being clocked in, with my bible open, starting my day off thinking about what my COO said, and the idea of a bible study being brought back into the Y and honestly – feeling really insecure and negative and doubtful about it. The next thing I’m about to say can only be divine appointment: around the corner and into the office comes a man and the first words out of his mouth were “Hey man, do y’all do any bible studies here?”
  • My jaw literally dropped. To me, this was clearly the Lord putting this man in front of me as affirmation that his voice had been made clear. I got to talking to the man, and through our conversation it became more apparent this is something I feel called to do.
  • Later that week (Wednesday) I was walking home from work and saw the man outside after recently talking with a friend about the experience, and he asked again about the bible study. This was uncanny – it was Christ.
  • I’ve felt convicted about my doubts for this after clearly seeing the the call of God for this through this divine appointment – I knew what to do.
  • However, when I was feeling doubtful, I was isolating myself – what we talk about in F3 as the isolated male. My BOM today was about answering the taps on the shoulder from the Lord and inviting other men and HIM and people into the fold and grace of that – so you don’t isolate yourself.

COUNT-OFF & NAME-O-RAMA
43 HIM came out and crushed the Monday gloom (2 FNGs included)
CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
1) Know that you are fully equipped and capable of whatever mission the Lord tasks you with this week. Know your mission and that where he sends you this week, there you’ll be.

2) Don’t be afraid to Wagon-Wheel this week. I’m not good at it. My pride gets in the way. A key component of wagon-wheeling is dying to yourself and your own ambitions or work so that you can go back and bring those falling behind out of the gloom. Don’ the afraid to wagon-wheel this week – to be that voice of encouragement that circles back around to speak life into those that may have/are falling behind or that you’ve noticed need to be encouraged. When people see the F3 logo – that means something. The commitment to pursuing the Lord as HIM, as well as to each other is vital to the nature of F3.
MOLESKIN:
G-6 gave me encouragement this morning before things got kicked off – I always get nervous about my BOM because I don’t want to word vomit or get in my own way of sharing what God’s put on my heart/letting my words be far and His words be here & clear. G-6 gave me encouragement that went something like: God will put on your heart what he wants you to say/communicate when the time comes. That is important. And meant a lot. Because that means that we don’t have to worry or stress about saying the right thing or focus on how we sound – God’s got it already taken care of and He will put on our hearts what he wants us to say. A prayer I’ve been working on (and off unfortunately) for some time has gone something like this and when I remember to say it – man it hits home.

Lord, give me eyes to see like you, ears to hear your truth, lips to speak life, hands and feet to go and serve where you call me, and a heart to love like you.

Kinda just puts it in perspective of how much we need God to come into our everyday being and let the Holy Spirit allow us to be purpose-driven High Impact Men in everything we say and do.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower encouraged Allied soldiers taking part in the D-day invasion of June 6, 1944, reminding them, “The eyes of the world are upon you,” before they embarked on ” a great crusade.”

– it is so hard for us to remember how much has been sacrificed for us to be able to do this today. Think back to when you were 18 & idk what you were doing but I bet it wasn’t jumping out of a boat with bullets flying by your head and into your buddies.

– I think Eisenhower’s reminder of the eyes of the world are upon you still ring true for us today though. As Christian men – Men of Impact – the eyes of the world absolutely are on us and we are without a doubt on a crusade. Keep fighting the good fight and keep the faith. Like I said before you are better men than when you showed up this morning – and none of us would be here without the other.
