COUNT-OFF & NAME-O-RAMA
13 HIMs getting better in the rain on the first Saturday workout at the Asylum in 2020

Veggie was here, but he is not in the group, so I couldn’t tag him.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
It is a new year and a new decade and no one knows what it holds.  It could be the year that someone is added to your life, or it could be the year that someone is taken away.  It could be the year of the promotion, or it could be the year of the demotion.  It could be the year of kindergarten, or it could be the year of graduation.  It could be the year of the big win, or it could be the year of the big loss.  Regardless, you don’t need a resolution, you need a constitution, a foundation.  On a big scale, it should be God, your family, your friends, etc.  But, it can be anything that grounds you.  It can even be as simple as the F3 workouts.  The asphalt, concrete, and grass do not change, and they are always there waiting for you whether you have a good day/week or a bad day/week.  They are checkpoints after good times or bad and before whatever lies ahead.  If nothing else, start there and build.  Have a good new year but not just for what good fortunes may come your way during the year but based on what you keep your eye on and focus on while the year goes by

MOLESKIN:
Prayers for Pinto, Flashback 2, Lady Tank, Cheatsheet’s family, Lady Junk, and Veggie going back for another semester of college

Operation CMU Extraction

THE SCENE: It was a drizzly day in the South American jungle that day. Which is to say it was pouring. Hard.
F3 WELCOME & DISCLAIMER
WARM-O-RAMA:

We didn’t have much time to prepare. The situation was too dire. Word had reached us that things had grown beyond what we had feared in the CMU concentration camp. So we did the only thing we could, saddled up for a black ops extraction (i.e. 10 SSH). The mission would be high in the mountains (10 mtn climbers 4ct) so we loaded up the choppers and they waved us out (10 overhead claps).
THA-THANG:
They must have known we were coming. They shot down two of our choppers and only my team was left to get those CMUs out of that hell hole. There were five of us. Moses, our squad lead, took some shrapnel in his arm and leg, so it was up to me to get things underway. We made an emergency landing in the Swamp. It was tricky getting out of there but we managed.

1. Leaving the swamp (softball field):

  • 10 iron squats
  • 10 sprint line touches (20 yards)
  • 10 right side lunge
  • 10 left side lunge
  • Ascend to the camp

The security in the camp was much tighter than we thought as well. We could only get one CMU to the extraction point at a time. We code-named the camp, The Summit. Once there; Fins, our gunner; Hammy, our medic; Butterfingers, our explosives expert; and I took up support positions while Moses moved in for the first extraction.

Support positions held any of the following while extraction was underway:

  • Hold onto pullup bar
  • Knees above parallel bars
  • Squat on balance board
  • Low dip on bench
  • Low plank

Extraction Person:

  • 10 upright rows
  • 10 squat thrusts
  • 10 curls
  • Move CMU to extraction point
  • Repeat for as long as support team can hold position

I’m not sure who broke position. But after that, it was sheer chaos. We hightailed it out of there until we were able to regroup on the far side of the camp. From their we tried another ascent. We recalled Ma’am’s training and got back to the camp. Butterfingers affectionately named that little mudhole “Ma’am’s Bottom”

2. Ascent from Ma’am’s bottom:

  • 10 BBS
  • Sprint (I’m up, they see me, I’m down)
  • 10 WW2 sit ups
  • Sprint (I’m up, they see me, I’m down)
  • Repeat 3 times then continue to camp

We attempted another rescue attempt, but it wasn’t long before we had to make another retreat. We found ourselves in a strange place. An old bridge that no one seemed dumb enough to cross but us. Getting back across was another story…

Paying the troll toll:

  • 10 body builders
  • 10 SSH 4ct
  • 10 meekins
  • 10 mtn climbers
  • Ascend to camp

This process continued for about an hour. Retreat to the swamp, extract a CMU, retreat to Ma’am’s bottom, extract a CMU, retreat to troll bridge, extract a CMU, and back to the swamp.

Unfortunately, they caught on to our reuse and we had to leave…. I wish we could have got them all, but it was just too much without the other two teams…

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
Though it can seem like we are doing things just to get them out of the way to be happy later, we really need to enjoy what God has put right in front of us. Like Daniel, God has us where he wants us, and asks us to be faithful to him. So like Daniel both sought the good of Babylon while still remaining faithful to God (in not eating pig for example), he trusted God to take care of punishing Babylon. So too we need to be faithful to God’s commands to love and be patient with those around us, and trust Him to give us Joy and Purpose for the things we set out hands to. He has you where you are right now for a reason.

THE SCENE: Dark, wet, a bit rainy and lower 50’s
F3 WELCOME & DISCLAIMER
WARM-O-RAMA:

SSH x 20, Baby Arm Circles x 15 forwards and 15 backwards + 15 shoulder taps, Little of This and That, Michael Phelps, Cherry Pickers x 5, Imperial Walkers x 10
THA-THANG:
This workout was done with a basketball. Everywhere we went we ran Indian Runs, passing the ball to the person behind us and when the ball made it to the back of the line whoever had it would run to the run and start passing it back again. If the ball touched the ground at anytime, even during exercise, we all had to stop and do 5 burpees

  • Amphitheater: 2 laps of snaking the stairs. 1st lap we did 10 Big Boy Sit ups at the bottom of each staircase and 10 Merkins at the top. 2nd lap we did 10 Dips at the bottom and 10 Sumo Squats at the top
  • Min Kao Bridge: We lunged across the bridge, stopping 3 times to do 15 Carolina Dry Docks each time
  • Bottom of the Hill: 25 Incline Merkins, 25 Little Baby Crunches, 25 Squats and run up the steps to Ayers
  • Outside Ayers: We made a big circle on our 6’s and passed the ball around. Each time someone caught the ball they had to lead everyone in 5 reps of an exercise. We did 2 rounds and you couldn’t pass to the people next to you or the person who just passed to you and went until everyone had caught the ball. 1st round was American Hammers and 2nd round was Flutterkicks
  • Student Union Bridge: We played Bearcrawl Ball. We formed 2 teams and essentially played soccer with our hands while bearcrawling
  • Long Mosey back to AO

COUNT-OFF & NAME-O-RAMA

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
During this time of year we often take time to think about things we want to improve on, do more of, become better at, or start doing all together. I encouraged us to also consider where in our lives we can dial back, spend less time, less energy, or less money, in order to make room for the things we value or to just make more room in our schedules in general. Last night I read that the average audio book collection of the entire Bible clocks in at 71 hours, which is also less time than the average American spends in one month watching TV. So what are somethings, like TV, phone, social media, etc. that we could be spending less time on in order to make room for the things we value most?

19 HIMs tackled Mt. JUCOnte in the pouring rain. 2 FNGs defied all odds to come out on a rainy, cold day. Welcome Tinker Bell and White Noise!
CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
As we start a new year, reflect on your commitments in 2019 and learn to say “No” to those that don’t benefit more than just you. In 2020, my goal is to say “No” to those things that only benefit me and take time/passion away from my faith and my family.
MOLESKIN:
Shoutout to Tinker Bell and White Noise for making the HC to come out on such a nasty day. I felt bad having their first Q be such a grinder, but they both killed it.
