COT: Talked about the balancing act between the importance of having and acting upon a set of core values or convictions, whether they be religious, your opinion on how groups should be run, etc., and how it can be challenging to do this as a LEADER, because your actions and decisions will affect other people. And many of those people may have strong convictions as well that are not necessarily aligned with yours. So if the primary basis is a set of beliefs that aren’t universally shared by many in the group, what do you do? Martin Luther King said “A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus, but a molder of consensus.” I feel I need to work on being able to mold consensus, because that is something I have failed at recently in leadership positions. I need to be more cognizant and respectful of those who disagree with me so that we can find a way forward.

One thing I’ve loved about F3 over the years is that it’s largely a place that is absolutely NOT RUN according to any one person’s personal doctrine. The mission is to support and lift up the guy next to you. Promote servant leadership. Living Third. Issues like politics and differences between specific faiths—even though FAITH is one of our three F’s– are left at the door. So as leaders, I agree with Dr. King in that we need to try to actively create consensus, and find the balance between holding firm to our values while finding solutions and compromises that respect other’s that are affected by our decisions as well.

COT:
KINGSTON, Tenn. (WATE) — One person was killed in a motorcycle crash in Roane County on Monday, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Jason Mullins, 43, died following the single-vehicle crash in Kingston. According to the THP preliminary report, it occurred just before 3 p.m. in the 2900 block of Kingston Highway. Investigators said the motorcyclist lost control after hitting a patch of hydraulic fluid on the roadway. No other vehicles were involved. The driver was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Jason Mullins was also known as Riddler to his F3 brothers. He was part of the Chainbreakers mountain biking group.

F3 Tank said, “He was a big part of the Chainbreakers. Quite the character and cared about others greatly. He has a teenage daughter that is definitely going to need your prayers. He was a believer in Christ and no doubt is in the arms of his heavenly father.”

Psalm 39:4 ESV
[4] “O Lord, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am!

Psalm 90:12 ESV
[12] So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.

Life is Brief, let us set our priorities well and make the most of our days in this life.

Pray for Riddler’s family.

COT:
This week’s Q point is courage (Q3.12). It’s easy to associate courage with facing physical challenges, but today I want to challenge us to consider the courage it takes to admit when we don’t know something or be seen as less-than by others. Even the prospect of being embarrassed or ridiculed often holds me hostage and prevents me from doing something I should. This can partly be captured in the idea of the beginners mind. Paul talks about it in 1 Corinthians 4:9-13. At its root, this is connected to pride, as well as an undue regard for the opinions of men.
When we overcome it, we not only find freedom to act in accordance with the truth, but we also produce opportunities for deeper relationships, because trust is bred when we stop faking our strength and instead present the authentic.
