CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

When committing to a discipline or stopping a habit, one is likely to meet one of two characters; the tyrant or the victim. Often one will quickly morph into the other at the drop of a hat. They live in your head. The tyrant will cause one to overcommit for a period of time until failure, then completely berate you with guilt, and cause you to completely give up. The victim (often will take over at this point) and baby you to the point that you don’t think you can even live up to said commitment. But it’s ok because you’re special and it loves you no matter how much of a sadclown you become.

How does one find balance between the two? How much grace should one give themselves in the face of failure? How much discipline should one enforce without becoming a tyrant?

Marcus Aurelius in his Meditations said the following…

“When force of circumstance upsets your equanimity (composure/balance), lose no time in recovering your self-control, and do not remain out of tune longer than you can help. Habitual recurrence to the harmony will increase your mastery of it.”

Brian Johnson calls this the “Equanimity Game”. How can you recover your self-control as fast as you can?
Great men aren’t flawless. They just recover faster than you can even see it.

YHC learned as an FNG that when standing on one foot stretching your quads, you can’t be looking all over the place. One must focus on a central point out in front of you. The same is true in this sense. Finding balance is about focusing on a central point and to be grounded to it.

As Christian men, our central point is this…
Romans 8:1 – “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

Jesus wasted no time in reinstating Peter. John 21:15-ff reads…

When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”  “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”
16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.
18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.”
19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”

Don’t become a tyrant to yourself.
Don’t give in to the bullying and become your own victim.

Receive the grace. Receive the discipline. Recover quickly and move forward.

Romans 8:18:  “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is going to be revealed to us.”

When things get tough, whether physically, mentally, or spiritually, we know that there is something in the future that will completely overshadow and make us forget those sufferings.  When we see Jesus face-to-face.  When we encounter hard circumstance, hard people, or desperate times, we know we have this hope in Christ Jesus.

COUNT-OFF & NAME-O-RAMA
11 PAX were hitting it hard today.
CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
Synopsis from Romans 5:1-11:
1. FAITH in Christ provides peace and access
2. HOPE through Christ allows us to endure suffering to become more Christ-like
3. LOVE of Christ saves sinners from God’s wrath and justifies us now and in the future

Faith, Hope, and Love is a repeated theme in Scripture.

“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 We have also obtained access through him by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also boast in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, 4 endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. 5 This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.  6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For rarely will someone die for a just person—though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die. 8 But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 How much more then, since we have now been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from wrath. 10 For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, then how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life. 11 And not only that, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received this reconciliation.”

2 Peter 1:5 – 8

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Just as adding exercises helps build your fitness, adding virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love will help you be fruitful in your walk with Christ Jesus.

Peter also reminds us in 1:12-15:

12 For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth. 13 Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you, 14 knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me. 15 Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my decease.

Peter adds narrative to the imperative here.  He reminds them that he didn’t start out with all these things.  As a matter of fact, he reminds them of his death that Jesus himself told him he would face because he battled impulsiveness, racism, and narcissistic tendency.  If he can grow from those, we can grow from our baseline.
MOLESKIN:
Praying for continued healing from sickness and for Bobbit’s travel.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Painting at Cardinal’s M’s house on March 18th.  FBC Kingston to also assist with something in the yard or additional cleaning.  Claps for fitness test.
