CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

Today’s my birthday! I’m so happy to share it with you men at the start!

As many of you know, lately I’ve had my thoughts on a certain person. She’s gotten my attention and my thoughts go there often. But the best part about her? She fills my thoughts with the Word of God. We talk about it all of the time.

We discuss what we’re meditating on, what we’re reading through, what our devotionals that we read says (we even discovered we have the same daily devotional book)!

Many people probably know what the greatest two commandments are. Love God and love others. This fulfills the whole law! The Jews counted up 613 different laws from the Torah to be followed and yet if you did these two things you would fulfill the law.

Coupled with this is what Jesus said with your heart – what you meditate on, what you think about, will overflow. This is also stated in the same passage that Jesus quotes when asked about the Greatest Commandment in Deuteronomy 6:4-9:

4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[b] 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Obedience to God’s law is threefold: immediately, completely, and joyfully. We can ask God to help us follow through, especially with our hearts, as we think about The Good News of Law as my church put it during a study we did this summer.

So today, dwell upon, meditate on, talk about, and think of God’s law. You will see the fruit of thinking about how good it is all the time with a heart that overflows with belief of the same.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
Completing what you started. God starts what He finishes. Jesus wasn’t plan B. He has a time for everything and a place for you and me to fit in. Today we are here on a Wednesday. Everything is perfect in time. I’m praying about what to do with my time. I have a PE exam to study, friendships to pursue, a church to serve, a job to work, and lots more…

But the real test is do we trust God for what he calls us to do when we feel like He will not complete it for us or that we have to hold on to have him complete that in us? A passage where Jesus challenges us to count the cost and the time for things in order to complete it – Luke 15:25-33:

25 Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and said to them, 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. 27 Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. 28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? 29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ 31 Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. 33 So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.

Jesus challenges us to make sure we know what the cost of something is – a house, a marriage, a new job, staying at your old job, a lawsuit, everything- we must count it! Anybody know what TINSTAAFL means? There Is No Such Thing As A Free Lunch. God counted the cost when He sent Christ in a twofold way:

Romans 8:31-3231 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be[i] against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

Philippians 1:6And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

So today, where are you counting (or not counting) the cost? Are you grateful for the cost the Father gave of Christ’s blood? If not, pause and reflect.

MOLESKIN:
Signing up to Q makes you not fartsack as much. Cost counted. Pride humbled. More workouts attended.

Resolution and Review

Resolution – a firm decision to do or not to do something. Sound like a Yoda quote.

From the devotions from Thomas a Kempis a 14th century Christian

“In the morning make a resolution and in the evening examine yourself on what you have said this day, what you have done and thought, for in these things perhaps you have offended God and those around you. “

An example for a resolution to start your day – Pray that God would help you to consider others throughout the day more than yourself. Pretty easy to sit in bed at night to rewind and playback parts of your day. Was I self serving today or did I serve others?

In the same devotional Thomas says “Just men depend on the grace of God rather than on their own wisdom in keeping their resolutions.”

Digging for Treasure? Find it in Christ Alone!

THE SCENE: 47F and clear. Great workout weather.
F3 WELCOME & DISCLAIMER – Administered. Hopefully social distancing requirements will be lifted soon!
WARM-O-RAMA:

IC Moroccan Night Club x 10
IC Tennessee Rocking Chair x 10
OYO Forward Lunge x 5 ea leg
OYO Side Lunge x 5ea leg
IC Tempo Merkin x 10
Pickle Pounder x 10
Pickle Pointer x 10
Reach for the sky ~10-15 seconds
Let it hang ~10-15 seconds

Mosey around the parking lot toward the pavilion near the walking path. Today we’re digging for treasure! Let’s see if we can find some

THA-THANG:
Dig Site #1 – At the Pavillion – ~5 minutes of AMRAP of the following (10 reps each)

Step Ups
Incline Merkins
Squats
Dips

Mosey to Dig Site #2 – the CMU Pile ~ 10 minutes AMRAP of the following (10 reps each)
Hodor
Bent Over Rows
Blockees

The plan was to run down and back to the tree next to the pathway leading up to the CMU plie after all 3 exercises, but the Hodors and Blockees proved to be so difficult after the first round the Q suggested a modification of running after each exercise set of 10 reps and I think it worked better.

Mosey to Dig Site #3 – The Fish
Bear crawl the fish. 30 second wall sit. Repeat 1x.

Rounded it up with 10 x Pickle Pounders + 10 x Pickle Pickle Pointers

Falling Indian Run (aka a modification of a do-ah-diddy) Dig Site #4 – Shovel Flag
Man in the front of the line peels off and does squats until the end of the line reaches him. New man in front of the line counts to 3 (originally had it planned for 5 but we didn’t have very far to run so I wanted us to get plenty of squats in) while running and then peels off. Repeat until destination is reached.

MARY:
Dig Site #4 – Shovel Flag – Q gave the option of doing something hard (my version of the Thunderstruck routine, doing something flexible (Dealer’s Choice), or doing something that makes you think (Mary Go Round) and the first two tied, so we did something hard (20 reps minimum) of Dealer’s Choice.

COUNT-OFF & NAME-O-RAMA
15 Treasure Hunters!

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

Today we went searching for treasure. And we found a few gems we might have to take out and repeat our long gaze at the future!

This past year has caused us all to ask the question:
Where is your treasure? Matthew 6:19-21 (and also Luke 12:32-34) answers it:

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[e] destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

So again I’m going to ask: Where is your treasure? Is it in this world? In the security of making good financial decisions? Are you trusting in the perceived security of a relationship? A friendship? A hope of something you’ll experience in the future? Or even a felt vindication for the past? Where is your treasure? Further commentary from Jesus continues in Matthew 6:22-23

22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, 23 but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

What are you taking in that is driving your treasure? Consider well -we know GIGO. But do we apply it to our eating habits? To our treatment of our friends? Does how we act, what we say, and why we do it point to a treasure in heaven or a treasure in ourselves? Where is your treasure?

Last Jesus points to the most obvious dichotomy in Matthew 6:24

24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.[f]

This is where the rubber soundly meets the road. There are many ways to fall and only one angle at which you can stand straight. Is your treasure in money, your financial security to provide for yourself and your family? Or is it with God in heaven? Jesus says you can’t have them both as the place you’re putting your treasure? So once more:

Where is your treasure? I pray it’s wholly, daily seeking to be in Heaven, Where Christ Is.

MOLESKIN:
Prayed for Jordan, Clickbait, Corey, & Interpol. Also this was my first time leading at Shamrock and thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope the PAX were well-served.

1 Samuel 24:6

6 He said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, the Lord’s anointed, to put out my hand against him, seeing he is the Lord’s anointed.” 7 So David persuaded his men with these words and did not permit them to attack Saul. And Saul rose up and left the cave and went on his way.

1 Samuel 25 Nabul and Abigail, Abigail spoke reason into David.

At church, we have been studying the life of David. In 1 Samuel 24 David, despite enormous peer pressure, did not take Saul’s life in the cave and listened to the voice of God and showed restraint. In the very next chapter, a man named Nabul insults him and he was ready to take the lives of every man in the town.

The same man shows so much restraint in one challenge because he was in tune with the voice of God. The very next challenge, arguably much less significant of a situation, he was ready to slaughter all the men in a town but listened to the reason of the wife of the man that had wronged him. As high impact men we need to be in tune with God’s voice as much as we can in our lives, but when this is not the case, surrounding ourselves with people who will speak reason to us is a crucial guardrail to have in place. I am thankful for the people in my life that are there to keep me on track when I am not as in tune with God’s voice as a should be.
