CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
In Ephesians 5 Paul exhorts those of us who are husbands to love our wives “just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”  I usually have thought of that verse in the context of his ultimate sacrifice for us on the cross.  Of course, that event was the culmination of his saving love for us, but giving himself started far before that.  He gave himself when he left the comfort of Heaven and stepped down to be born into a limited body like ours. He gave himself every day during his ministry when he was tired and hungry and wanted anything but to deal with more throngs of people.  Every day he actively sought out ways to give himself for us.  As you go through your day, look for ways that you can give yourself up; your needs, your desires, your conveniences, for your wife and show Christ’s love to her and also as an example to your children.
MOLESKIN:
2 weeks was a long time to be away from the Pound.  Missed you guys, but it was great to get to witness the great start for the Bomb Shelter.  Great job everyone who EH’d!  Toddler Toss ended up being significantly more hazard potential than anticipated.  I guess rocks don’t care if you drop ’em so they don’t help out at all like real toddlers do.

I watched Clemson Head Football Coach Dabo Sweeney discuss how to handle situations where players did not stand during the National Anthem.  His points were interesting on a topic that has been heavy on my heart.  I had the following two points for us to reflect on:

Points to reflect on:

1.) God gave us two great commandments, first to, “Love the Lord our God with all of our heart, all of our mind, and all of our strength”.  Secondly, “Love your neighbor as yourself”.  God didn’t say love people that are your same race, religion, sexuality, etc., etc., fill in the blank but, God did say LOVE your neighbor as yourself.  We do not have to all agree with other’s actions but we must LOVE one another.

2.) To see change we have to look in the mirror because ultimately we all want good in this nation and world but we have different ideas of what that looks like so to accompany our immediate prayers let us also use the simplistic yet effective formula of LOVE and KINDNESS for our fellow man and change starts at home and spreads to impact others.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
I’ve been reading a study about being a better dad, an “intentional father”, and leading my kids to a relationship with Jesus.  For me I sometimes feel like I don’t know how to do that.  I don’t know all the right things to say and do have them learn about Jesus.  But by putting down my phone, work, hobbies, tv remote, etc., and intentionally spending time with them, I’m off to a good start.  By paying attention to them while they play, or ask questions (lots and lots of questions), or eat dinner and putting the distractions away they can tell the difference.

Sometimes our biggest obstacles to being intentional father is we do not know where to start.  Well just like Matterhorn we climbed this morning, we have to be willing to take that first step.  Get up and move, and if we stumble or fall to get up and keep going.  I’m also learning that I have to show that side to my kids.  If I struggle with obstacles and I handle it the wrong way, my kids learn the wrong way to handle obstacles.  In those times of struggles, I have had to go back and apologize to my kids and ask for forgiveness.  Which does a couple things, it makes my kids realize “hey dad isn’t perfect” and “dad can admit when he is wrong”.  My weaknesses turn into learning points.

And when I struggle with an obstacle so much that I seek our heavenly Father’s assistance with it, my kids see that too.  They see that God is always with us to lift us up and carry us when we need it.  My hope is they know that not only I am always there to pick them up, but that God walks with us.  God picks us all up, gives us a hug, knocks the dirt off, and says “Let’s do this together”.

MOLESKIN:
The PAX really pushed hard this morning, even though we did some things we never tried before.  Indian run with pee rock curls being a prime example.  But we all got better!

Remember Jesus’s last words on the cross, “IT IS FINISHED” and cling to the power that those word gave humanity. Jesus gave us freedom through his resurrection, which is a freedom that is unlike any that this world has to offer. This freedom provides eternal life in heaven. So as you go out and celebrate the freedom of our country today with your family and friends make sure to remember the true freedom we have in Christ.
