Investing in others.  Building legacy. Advancing his kingdom – three part series

Part 1 (kick flip on mon): be grateful for those who have invested in your life.  Show gratitude.  Be humble enough to realize that many people paved your road.

Part 2 (commission on wed): Be a man who is investing in others.  Give of your time and experience.  Look for ways to lead by example. Counsel those who need counseling and share.

Part 3 (me): how to be a good mentor.  Characteristics of a good mentor are:  Listener, speaking truth, encourager, knowledgeable, and nonjudgemental.

Do you live in a way that can be considered an example to others?

“Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:3‬ ‭ESV‬‬

We’re all sinners and truly fall short of the glory of God but that doesn’t mean we should sit on the sidelines. We should constantly be seeking knowledge and relationships that we can learn from or teach in.

Mentors should still seek out other mentors. Some of the best mentorship’s are the ones that aren’t prescribed in any formal manner.

Think about how Jesus mentored the 12 disciples. He spent nearly all of his waking time in an effort to build them up

Proverbs 22:6 ESV

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 27:17 ESV

Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.

We can all think of at one person who has been a mentor to ourselves but have you told them thank you?

COUNT-OFF & NAME-O-RAMA

Only a dozen men in history have planted their feet on the surface of the moon.  Neal Armstrong was the first in July 1969.  The last was Eugene Cernan, on December 13, 1972 – 49 years ago.

Captain Eugene Cernan was commander of the Apollo 17 mission, the final moon landing mission of the Apollo program and the last time that humans have even gone beyond low Earth orbit.  Apollo 17 landed in the moon’s Taurus-Littrow valley in part because it was thought to be possibly volcanic, and they wanted a closer look.  Cernan had twice before been a pilot for space missions – Apollo 10 had taken him into moon orbit, but not to its surface.  He must have been elated at the chance to return and perform this legendary feat (he’ll have the best story at every dinner party for the rest of his life, for sure!).  As he stepped to the edge of the lunar module and prepared to take his first – of what would be mankind’s last – steps on the moon, that leader of this historic moment paused and said these words that I wanted us to reflect on this morning.

“Houston, as I step off at the surface at Taurus-Littrow, I’d like to dedicate the first step of Apollo 17 to all those who made it possible…”

That’s the kind of leader that I want to be.  Even in my life’s pinnacle moments, I want to humbly know that my accomplishments and blessings are owed to the many who have paved my way.  I want to live and lead with humility and expressing gratitude to those who have invested in my life.

Galatians 6:6, “Let the one who is taught the Word share all good things with the teacher”.

How can I express my gratitude to those who have taught me, mentored me, taken a chance on me, opened a door for me?  What good things do I have to share back with them?  I believe most of them would simply say, “your heartfelt thanks is more than enough”.  Heck, I can do that!

So, here’s is your challenge.  Reflect on the actions of a mentor, a parent, a youth leader, a teacher – someone who has made an investment in your faith, your health, your career, your relationships – and some part of you is better because of the time and energy they gave you.  By the end of the day, reach out to that person and let them know you appreciate them.  A call, a text, an email.  Buy them lunch.  Give them a specific example of what they did for you and let them know of the impact it has made in your life.

“We must find time to stop and thank those people who make a difference in our lives” – JFK

Live and lead with humility and gratitude.  Express your gratitude to those who have invested in your life.

Hallerin Hinton Hill spoke at my church a couple of weeks ago. His message was on hope.
He said Hope is a habit
We need to practice hope
Remember when you’re at rock bottom, things can only get better.

I was hanging out at rock bottom when I was invited to workout with you.

I lost my job of 20 years and had no idea of how I was going to support my wife and kids.

Thanks Spotter for inviting me out!

“As tears were coming down the hope was rising up.”

4 things people with hope have:
1. H-healing
2. O-opportunities: turn obstacles into opportunity!
3. P-progress: Fix more than they break & leave more than they take
4. E-encouragement: literally means to make courage

Be in the habit of hope!

You gentlemen give me hope and challenge me to be a better man. I’m so happy to have you in my life.

2 Corinthians 12:9
Each time he said,”My grace is all you need, My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

11 Men that I pray are striving to be HIMs! Welcome to FNG Spring Break!
CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

Why are you here?

I’m here because it makes me a better man, a better father, a better husband, and even a better Christian. The workout is an added bonus to the BOM & COT that offer the true reward for rolling out of bed at an unreasonable time. F3’s purpose is to “invigorate male community leadership.” F3 is also a “Faith” based group. If you read up on that aspect per F3 nation it does not define “Faith” as Christianity or even religion, but as a belief in something bigger than oneself. However, I’m blessed that here at JUCO each member of the PAX has shared their own belief that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. This has allowed for an even greater impact from the PAX on my life as they each share Biblical messages that push us to be better Christians and strive to be HIMs.

A note on High Impact Men (HIMs). We use this term frequently when referring to our PAX in F3, but let’s take a moment to reflect on what this term means. A High Impact Man can be defined by immeasurable qualities, integrity, honesty, loyalty, servitude, leadership, humbleness, meekness, etc.  In my mind, the true HIM need only be defined by one single word, Godly. Any man that can be defined as such will inherently be a High Impact Man. I’m urging each member of the JUCO PAX to strive for Godliness in all that you do.

1 Timothy 4:8

“For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.”

MOLESKIN:
Shoutout to Booster for stepping up at the All Pro Dads event recently and pushing the community men to be better leaders. It doesn’t take F3 as a vehicle to invigorate others. Let’s strive to do it any way we can.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
Now that we are nearing the Advent season, part of this season is to look back at what Jesus did for us when He came to earth and gave us hope and salvation through the Cross. But the other part of the Advent season is to look forward in the hope of His return, His second coming. And one verse I have been thinking on is Psalm 27:4, which says:

“One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.”

And if you look at the people in the Bible who have seen the Lord, they are always so stunned at seeing Him. Isaiah, when he sees God, says, “Woe is me” or Moses, after seeing the Lord on Mount Sinai, he comes down from the mountain and his face is glowing from being with the Lord. So, this was just an encouragement to look forward to the Lord’s second coming in this Advent season as well as look back.
