CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
I attended a men’s conference two weekends ago called Warrior One3 in Austin, TX. Its was an awesome experience and I highly recommend it! These were some dudes that were fired up about Jesus. It was great!!

I want to share a couple of things that stood out to me. More than once it was said that “This is not a retreat, it’s in advance!”

Don’t try, Do! Every time someone said I’ll try to… They were challenged. “You’ll what?!”

The Warrior Ethos consist of 13 pillars: Commitment, Honor, Respect, Prepared, Faithful, Fighter, Hungry, Humble, Lover, Teachable, Firestarter, Truthful, and Generous.
Each one is tied to a Bible verse. Now that I’m back on the schedule, we’ll dive into these.

There’s power in our words. The belief in your heart creates your reality.

I am… You are what you say you are, so make sure it’s positive! I challenge you guys to try it this week. Remember God‘s on your side and don’t limit Him!

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

Monday Kickflip shared about family discipleship through key moments
Wednesday Commission shared about family discipleship through teaching/training.
Today I will share about family discipleship through modeling. When I think of modeling I think of Deut 6:5-8.

5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

— Deuteronomy 6:5–8 (ESV)

  1. The first thing to notice: the priority of God. Out of our love for God comes our motivation for discipleship. He must come first. And he wants to be first at everything! He wants us to love him with every part of our person.
  2. The second thing to note is when to model. All the time! There is literally never a bad time. Going to bed and getting up. Sitting and walking. We’re always modeling and there is never a bad time to be teaching about God and his character.

When do you model for your family? Some pax shared times they model. Praying for meals and at bedtime, reading God’s word, etc.

The challenge today is to first follow God with everything. Second, take every opportunity to share with your family along the way.

COUNT-OFF & NAME-O-RAMA

Me and 13 of the best men I know

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
Joel 1:3, “Tell it to your children, and let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the next generation.”

Ps 78:1-4, “Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth!  …We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and His might, and the wonders that He has done.”

Ephesians 6:4, “Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”

We will have a theme for you during the BOM this week – and the theme is Family Discipleship.

Family discipleship is telling the coming generation about the character of God – and teaching them His instructions – or, to use F3 language, teaching them to live and lead virtuously.

Each of the Qs this week is going to present one way that can be done.  These are not exclusive of each other – rather, they really complement each other…

This morning, I talked about milestone occasions.  It’s not very often that we get these opportunities…  BIG moments – special times when your words and actions as a father – which are already so powerful – are magnified tenfold again!  Things like;

  • Birthdays
  • First / last day of school year
  • Move homes
  • Buying their first car
  • Profession of faith
  • First breakup with boyfriend / girlfriend
  • Death of a loved one
  • Formative talks (e.g., the sex talk)

These days could come and go like any other – or, with some planning and deliberateness on your part, these could be memorable or even life changing moments in your child’s lifeYou have an awesome opportunity to mark your children and make those occasions like a pillar on the timeline of their lives.

What can you do to make these times deeply meaningful?  Maybe…

  • A well-thought out talk, speaking blessings into their lives.
  • A special gift that reflects the occasion.
  • A trip with just that child.
  • A hand-written letter.
  • Others!

I talked about one way that I’m doing that in my children’s lives.  Every fourth birthday, my sons have received a special gift and a blessing from me.  Each of those birthday blessings is about two paragraphs that I’ve scripted to say exactly what I want to say to them – and it is themed around 2 characteristics that I want my sons to grow to be as men.

We are striving to be men of high-impact.  Where that begins – where we have the MOST IMPACT – and where it is MOST IMPORTANT – is at HOME.

MOLESKIN:

This morning was about discipling your kids by planning for and facilitating meaningful milestones in their lives.  Come back for Part 2 on Wed and Part 3 on Fri!

COUNT-OFF & NAME-O-RAMA
12 PAX today at JUCO.
CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

“My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.”

James 5:19‭-‬20 NASB

There is so much in the book of James. This particular passage points to our responsibility to turn back an erring brother from sin. Of course, we ourselves are only helping to point out the error in their life. God will provide forgiveness.  Note that if they need to be turned back, that means that they once were in the truth. Not only do we have the responsibility to help correct, but we have to have the humility to accept correction as well. Be willing to face your brother one-on-one. No gossip but straight to the source.
