COT: How do you handle disappointment? Who do you talk to about what’s going on your life? Vulnerability especially to our wives is not an inconvenience to be avoided but the path to growing in mental/emotional health, relationships (especially marriage), and faith. “When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

Casper ten Boom, Corrie ten Boom’s father

“The Hiding Place”

Casper was known as “Harlem’s Grand Old Man”. He was faithful. Casper was a staple of integrity and stability. They often had customers and guests by the shop just to see Casper.
Part of the routine of home life and the business that Casper established and practiced in every circumstance was that all family and employees would come to work and head upstairs to the kitchen for coffee and Bible reading before work at the same time every day, and the family would end the day with Bible reading.
This was the rhythm of the home and the business, and the year-round saturation of Bible reading would prove fruitful.

Casper inspires me. I want to be like him. I want my kids to come downstairs and find me reading my Bible and invite them to join me.
We have always had the routine of praying with our kids at night before bed. They won’t go to bed without it. I treasure that, but I want more. I want to dive deeper in my faith and bring my family along. I challenge you guys to hold me accountable to progress in this and I also challenge you to find a routine. Maybe that’s F3 or something else. Invite God into your day and see what happens. Love you guys!

COT:
Read quote from the Independence Day movie and compared it to Independence Day quotes from our founding fathers George Washington, John Adam’s, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin. The movie quote does get you hyped up to fight for our freedom, and the founding fathers did the same but each added something about God and Christ and our duty there. Speaking about God alongside everything was expected as they understood that without God they would not have anything. It is right, honorable and respectful to be proud of our country, flag and our Independence Day; however, we should never want independence from God. We in Christ are happy servants to a loving God and Savior.

COT:
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6‭-‬7 NASB

Scripture speaks several times about not being anxious. This is because anxiety comes out of the empty space between our lived trust in God and the trust that he deserves. When I feel anxious about my wife and her imminent labor and delivery, even though that is normal and expected, it is revealing a gap in my trust. My confidence in God’s good and Providence is incomplete, and I have taken upon myself the burden of filling the gap, covering for God. So I remind myself, and also you today, that we shouldn’t take on so much. It’s not for us to carry. Though we may well face pain and loss, he can and will make it right in the end.

COT:
STORY work – Dig into your past stories and relationships. These things directly impacted you and shaped who you are today. Our bodies and our brains process memory differently. They are still with you and how you operate. Find someone to share your story with to help you make sense of why your current life looks and feels the way that it does. You’ll experience healing and freedom along the way.

I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago and I want to continue to challenge each of you to do 3 things:

1. Show up! Just get here. You and the group will grow stronger each morning you are present.

2. Sign up to Q. You are more than equipped to lead a morning workout. You woke up and got here today, and that was the hardest part. I think every man here brings something unique and valuable to our group. If you need help building a workout or want to co-Q, just reach out to me. Let’s get the calendar filled up.

3. Encourage others. Talk to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers about F3. I know it’s not for everyone, but every man needs this, and we all know it. Mention it, talk about what it means to you, and ask for a commitment to try it.
