CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

I’ve been memorizing verses recently using an app called fighter verses. https://www.fighterverses.com/ Check it out if interested.

One of those verses is Deut 10:12-13:

12 And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?

— Deut 10:12-13

Two things I’d like to share.

  1. One is a reminder to obey God. These verses do a good job of fleshing out what that looks like.
  2. Two is a reminder it’s for our good. It’s amazing that God would set it up that obeying him is not just for him but also for us. Obey! and rest assured it’s the best thing to do.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
I’ve read this often, but lately I’ve heard it on more than a few occasions; The fruit of the Spirit is LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS and SELF-CONTROL. Against such things there is no law. (Gal 5:22-23). Paul wrote this to churches in Galatia 2000 years ago.

So what does this mean for us, as believers, here today?

I think that so much in scripture can seem redundant and repetitive. We can recite things over and over and believe that they are true. But do they change who we are? We need repetition, don’t we? Isn’t that the point? Isn’t that why we have church services every Sunday? Dont’ we come to F3 3-5 days a week and often do the same exercises? Why?

If you’re going to be good at something, you have to practice. If you’re going to follow Jesus, you have to read about and study who Jesus was. And if you’re going to live by the Spirit, we have to put into practice these exercises…to grow the fruit. We have to look different from the world. A dark world.

In Matthew, Jesus tells his followers that we are the salt and light of the world. “Let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven (Matt 5:16). So we do these things, not to make us look good but to reflect and glorify the one who is good.

My challenge for us today is to not only memorize Galatians 5:22-23, but to practice these 9 fruits of the spirit. Know them, think about them every day, and put them into practice.

We are going to fail at these, every day, but the goal here is practice. Practice kindness to those around you. Practice peaceful responses. Practice offering forgiveness to those who harm you. Practice being gentle to your wife. Practice patience with your kids. Practice taking a pause when you feel an urge or desire that you know is not from the Lord. Practice listening to a coworker. Practice love.

The more we practice these things, the more they will become habits and the more we will become like Jesus. And when we mess up, often, we take that opportunity and run to Him. We repent and know that He is trustworthy to forgive us.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

Acts 3:19-20 Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out. that times of refressingh may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus

At conversion, repentance is a turn from a way that says I can do it on my own.
I’m turning to Jesus, not trusting in my ability to earn heaven, but accepting it from Him.
That’s likely a very familiar message. Vitally important
but it is not a 1 time event. We must grow in our ability to repent.
As we get older we loose elasticity in our muscles, our legs need more stretching.
Especially if we are growing stronger in other areas.
We need to stretch more and more and repentance is that stretch.
Our brains lose elasticity too, but by God’s grace He makes old things new again.
We can grow in our grace, soften, love deeper, forgive faster, be more humble while greater.
Invite Christ into every aspect of yoru life. Refreshing comes from the presence of the Lord.
It is a call to action. I was one way, now I’m different.
It is a change. Change is hard, but consider what God wants to change in you.
I was selfish/lazy/consumed by work/obsessed with fitness/obsessed with hobbies/only focused on my world.
There is a a beautiful story on the other side of “but now I’m different.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
Gentlemen I’ve had a good run 🏃‍♂️ Thank you for the opportunity! It’s been an honor and a pleasure.

I couldn’t think of a better person to pass this flag to. I’ve had a lot of discussions with a lot of you as well as several members of the leadership team.

First off I feel super blessed to have such a great group of leaders to choose from. Obviously I wanted someone that represented all 3 F’s. Beyond that, I was looking for consistency. Who’s always here? Who’s leading by example? Who’s bringing ideas to challenge us? Who’s trying to strengthen the bond we have?

I wrote down Legacy when I was considering this role.

What is an example of a legacy?

For example, some people consider a legacy to be real estate or money. But the most treasured forms of legacy are found in intangible gifts: values, memories, friendship, love, and respect. I like the intangible ones…

The other was Passing the baton.

Where did the phrase passing the baton come from?

The phrase “passing the baton” is thought to have originated in the Olympic relay race around 1967, signifying duty and denoting that a successful outcome requires collective effort. This understanding of collaboration was embodied by passing an emblematic baton from competitor to competitor. I like that as well.

Run the good race my brother!! I’ll be here to support and cheer you on!!

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

I have 2 personal convictions I’m going to share.  Perhaps some of you need to hear this.
1) I talk too much. Much of what I say I hear at the same time you hear it.
When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.
Proverbs 10:19
Jesus says in Luke 6:
“It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.”
I’m not talking about swearing but maybe that is a part of it, I’m not sure I really care if you swear from time to time.  I am bothered by the use of Jesus Christ as an explitive
But have a filter and make sure that filter is Truth and encouragement. are words building up?

**Give thought to your words.**
2) God wants to work on not just my words spoken but also the thoughts and and my heart

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart
and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

what are you thinking? Would you verbalize those things?

Are you improving what you are thinking?
Perhaps it is best summed up by paul in Phil 4;8
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure,

whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

**Give thought to your thoughts**
