Message:
On this day of our celebration of America’s independence I have some quotes for you that reflect the principles our nation was found on. When I reflect on great American quotes I think of “Give me liberty or give me death” by Patrick Henry or “Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country” by John F. Kennedy. But here are five more quotes, not all by Americans, that reflect on America and it’s principles:
True patriotism springs from a belief in the dignity of the individual, freedom and equality not only for Americans but for all people on earth. –Eleanor Roosevelt
1.
Freedom is nothing but a chance to be better. – Albert Camus
1.
In America, nobody says you have to keep the circumstances that somebody else gives you. – Amy Tan.
1.
We are a nation of many nationalities, many races, many religions – bound together by a single unity, the unity of freedom and equality. – Franklin D. Roosevelt
1.
I think of a hero as someone who understands the degree of responsibility that comes with his freedom. – Bob Dylan
1.
Patriotism is easy to understand in America. It means looking out for yourself by looking out for your country. – Calvin Coolidge
1.
When thinking of that last quote, I think particularly of our military veterans who have fought to keep our country free. That freedom gives us “the chance to be better” like Camus says. It comes with responsibility as Dylan proclaims. And because of our freedom, as Tan states, we don’t “have to keep the circumstances that somebody else gives” us.

NMTA Not Meant To Arrive
There are 4 Pillars of arrival:
Can’t arrive. This is a negative mindset. You don’t believe in yourself and we need to fix that immediately.

Has arrived. You’ve made it, now what?
You’re not trying anymore. Afraid to take chances, because you might lose the title. Do not stop. Continue to set goals!

Will arrive. Once XYZ happens, then I’ll be happy. There are people sitting in nursing homes right now, still waiting on XYZ.

Not meant to arrive. This is where we should all strive to be! Become the next best version of yourself. Enjoy the journey just as much if not more than destination.
My development has no end. There is always more to learn, always more to do, and you can learn from every situation and everyone.

Be “Blissfully Unsatisfied!” Brothers!

”Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.“

COT
Reflecting on my 20s and F3’s role in my life

This is my last day in my 20s. Over the past decade, my life has changed and evolved drastically. Some of the big, definitive things that come to mind from this decade for me are (in no particular order):
— Graduating college
— Graduating the Knoxville Fellows thanks to G-6
— Finding F3
— Going through an excruciating coming out of Egypt season
— God calling me back to sonship and inviting me to be loved by Him and accept His grace and mercy
— Losing friends
— Losing family members
— The hardcore pursuit of the military and the mourning of that season and fight coming to an end
— Professional flailing
— The global pandemic
— Going through severe depression and isolation
— Investing into lies vs. truth
— Addiction
— Redemption
— Restoration
— Finding friends that I can call brothers
— By the grace of God, creating a new family with my wife Megan
— Waged a brutal war against my flesh
— My hard-heartedness slowly being chiseled away
— Re-introduced to what a healthy family can look like
— Being baptized
— Coming to the understanding that even though I left turned away from God in countless ways, He never turned away from me

Verses
– 2 Timothy 4:17 — But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me, so that I might fully preach the word and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth
– This is where my name comes from — God rescuing Daniel from the lions’ mouth in Daniel 6 in the Bible
– If you let him – He will stand by you, strengthen you, and equip you with everything you need – even if it doesn’t feel like it sometimes

– 1 Corinthians 13:11 — When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put aside childish things.
– In many ways I still feel like a child
– In many ways I feel like a man
– In every way I still need to rely on God and that He truly is a good, good father. I’ve got nothing else.

I’m so grateful for all of you, and for F3. The gift it has been in my life for 8 years has defined, shaped, and molded me into who I want to be going into the next decade and beyond. Thank you all for being a part of this journey with me.

COT:Albert Schweitzer, was a German philosopher that lived in the late 1800s through early 1900s. He is attributed with this quotation: “The Purpose of Human Life is to SERVE, and to show the compassion and the Will to Help Others.” We discussed this quote and how it applies to F3, and ended with another quote: “In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.”. I am thankful that the men of F3 have been that spark for me.
