Frankl writes from Man’s Search for Meaning-
“Let us first ask ourselves what should be understood by “a tragic optimism.” In brief it means that one is, and remains, optimistic in spite of the “tragic triad,” as it is called in logotherapy, a triad which consists of those aspects of human existence which may be circumscribed by: (1) pain; (2) guilt; and (3) death. This chapter, in fact, raises the question, How is it possible to say yes to life in spite of all that? How, to pose the question differently, can life retain its potential meaning in spite of its tragic aspects? After all, “saying yes to life in spite of everything,” to use the phrase in which the title of a German book of mine is couched, presupposes that life is potentially meaningful under any conditions, even those which are most miserable. And this in turn presupposes the human
capacity to creatively turn life’s negative aspects into something positive or constructive. In other words, what matters is to make the best of any given situation. “The best,” however, is that which in Latin is called optimum—hence the reason I speak of a tragic optimism, that is, an optimism in the face of tragedy and in view of the human potential which at its best always allows for: (1) turning
suffering into a human achievement and accomplishment; (2) deriving from guilt the opportunity to change oneself for the better; and (3) deriving from life’s transitoriness an incentive to take responsible action.”
This is why I love F3 and all of you men. It seems that all of this applies to my time with you all.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
Bitterness is not a useful state of mind. Many things will happen in your life that are unfair and horrible. Do not let yourself become bitter. It is not productive to wallow on things. Be proactive, if you cannot be make the best of your situation. There are many people who live meaningful lives in conditions that would seem to breed contempt. Be a HIM. Thankfully, F3 provides an opportunity to support and strive to be a HIM together. I appreciate you all.

I recently gave a friend a call who I knew was having a tough stretch. I found out that his life is more difficult and complex than I thought. It turns out he really (his own words) needed someone to reach out to him. So, be active. Reach out to friends, if they’re fine they will let you know. If not, then listen as much as you can. I encourage you all to make a phone call on your 30 min commute, or maybe while running to the store.

I recently met an old friend for dinner. It was good to catch up with him. I reflected on our time together and the moments where we began to take different paths. My friend certainly had a rough time for a few years. Maybe I did not fulfill my duty has a friend to be more open and willing to be supportive when I suspected something was going wrong. I do not mean to say that we should be very assertive, but rather we should ask them if everything is alright. Just reaching out to someone can be enough.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
I asked a friend who lives in Jamaica if he wanted to share something with us. This what he told me.

I was shot in 1979. I had three kids. They were six, four, and two. I was looking at death’s door after being shot, and Jamaica was certainly worse back then. While waiting to die in the hospital I asked God to keep me alive until my girls were 15 and 12, and until my boy was 13. This is the point where they could stand for themselves. I was in the hospital for 18 months before I was sent to the infirmary. While in the infirmary, I did not see my kids for many years. One day, I was at the gate. At the gate, I saw my children at the age I prayed for. I say all of this to show that we must have faith in God. In everything He will work things out for us if we put our trust in Him. Blessed Love

Psalms 85. 10-13

Love and faithfulness meet together;
righteousness and peace kiss each other.
Faithfulness springs forth from the earth,
and righteousness looks down from heaven.
The Lord will indeed give what is good,
and our land will yield its harvest.
 Righteousness goes before him
and prepares the way for his steps.
