CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

I’ve been memorizing verses recently using an app called fighter verses. https://www.fighterverses.com/ Check it out if interested.

One of those verses is Deut 10:12-13:

12 And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?

— Deut 10:12-13

Two things I’d like to share.

  1. One is a reminder to obey God. These verses do a good job of fleshing out what that looks like.
  2. Two is a reminder it’s for our good. It’s amazing that God would set it up that obeying him is not just for him but also for us. Obey! and rest assured it’s the best thing to do.

Little Known Facts About Laziness #7

Let’s review the facts…

Fact #7 – The way of the lazy slowly creep to sudden disaster.

Proverbs 6:9-11

How long will you lie there, O sluggard?
When will you arise from your sleep?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest,
11 and poverty will come upon you like a robber,
and want like an armed man.

Things start small, just little things that are off. Things get a little lax but then disaster is sudden and unavoidable.

The Proverbs talk about poverty coming like a robber. Sudden and unannounced, without warning.

The other illustration is similar but slightly different. The armed man illustrates how poverty is forced on you. It’s unavoidable and when it comes it’s too late.

The encouragement today is to consider areas of your life that could be getting lax and headed in the wrong direction. It starts small but be diligent and keep going and headed in the right direction.

Sweet Sweet Candy Pyramid

THE SCENE: Very warm compared to recent weather

F3 WELCOME & DISCLAIMER
WARM-O-RAMA:

  • Tempo Squats
  • Tempo Merkins
  • Wind Mills
  • Cherry Pickers

THA-THANG:

Easter Candy Pyramid

The PAX voted on their favorite Easter candy. Each candy was an exercise and the candy order determined the exercise order of the pyramid.

Exercise Order

  1. Merkin x 10 = 10 [Reece’s Eggs]
  2. American Hammers x 10 = 20 [Starburst Jelly Beans]
  3. Dips x 10 = 30 (reduced to 15 after first few rounds) [M & M’s]
  4. Burpees = 4 [Cadbury Mini Eggs]
  5. Lap around the building [Chocolate Bunny]
  6. BBS x 5 = 30 [Peeps]
  7. Squats x 5 = 35 [Cadbury Eggs]
  8. Step ups x 5 = 40 [Whopper Robin Eggs]

You start at 1. Once completed each level you start over and complete the next level. (1,2) Next start over and do 3 levels (1,2,3). After completing level 8, start over and complete 1-7 dropping a level each time till you’re completed a single level 1.

Most made it through level 8 and several made it several levels further.

MARY:

Crunches for the last minute.

Little Known Facts About Laziness #6

Let’s review the facts…

Fact #6 – The lazy way is the hardest way

Prov 15:19 – The way of the lazy man is like a hedge of thorns: Those who are lazy may not see it in themselves.

We often choose the lazy way because it seems easier. But it’s not! It’s like a hedge of thorns. I was recently reading about the Barkley Marathon. It’s a super hard marathon and it’s hard for many reasons. But one of those reasons is it takes place through the smoky mountains which are full of briars. You’re fighting through thick brambles and thorns that are tearing at you. It’s incredibly tough and miserable. This is what the lazy way is like.

Prov 18:9 – He who is slothful in his work Is a brother to him who is a great destroyer.

This is not a gentle rebuke. This is a serious issue. Being a little slack is the same as walking in with a sledge hammer and taking everything down.

Prov 12:24 – The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; But the slothful shall be put under taskwork.

Prov 10:4 – He who has a slack hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent makes rich

It’s amazing how many verses deal with laziness. It doesn’t seem to be a really big issue in the world but apparently Proverbs thinks overwise. Consider yourself and where you are lazy.

Little Known Facts About Laziness #5

Let’s review the facts…

Fact #5 – Laziness begets laziness

Consider this verse:

Slothfulness casts into deep sleep and an idle person will suffer hunger.

– Psalm 19:15

The first part of this verse indicates laziness makes you tired or sleepy. Notice it’s not the other way around. It’s not that tiredness makes you lazy. It’s not that you’re tired so you are lazy, it’s the other way. Laziness makes you tired. We can’t even trust our feelings and body in this case.

Also, remember fact #2: The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who can answer sensibly.

The lazy are self-deceived. They can’t trust their thoughts and now they can’t trust their feelings. This is getting tricky and a cycle that be a trap. You think you’re tired and need to rest but maybe you’re just lazy?

Of course, tiredness is a thing and real but we can’t always trust our self-evaluation.

I challenge all of you to watch out for this laziness trap.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

This week is a weird week. Sitting between Christmas and the New Year. The challenge is for us to take advantage of this week and be intentional. Your schedule might be different, family is in town, vacation days from work, etc.

When Jesus was a young man, there was a story about him getting lost from his family. His parents went looking for him for 3 days. They eventually found him in the temple and after questioning him, his response was “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my father’s house?”

Even from the beginning he was very intentional and knew what his purpose here on earth was. May we take advantage of our opportunities and the time we have also.
