CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
The way I developed this workout was to challenge everyone in areas that they might not feel the strongest like running, pull ups, or shoulder work.

This led me to think about a native American proverb about the constant battle within ourselves.

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”

 He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

It’s our choice everyday of which wolf we feed. So day by day, we can decide to feed the good in ourselves and starve the bad. And this might seem like the bad would go away, but when you starve a wolf, it only gets more aggressive, meaning the bad in ourselves can become harder and harder to suppress. But by continuing to keep focus on the good and turning your weaknesses into strengths can we be guided to a better version of ourselves in our faith, a better version of ourselves in our marriage, for our children.

I know you all made that choice to become better by showing up today, so all I ask is to continue through the rest of the day making the same decisions because we have no idea what tomorrow will bring.

How to Kraken a CMU

THE SCENE: Muggy with a capital “M”
F3 WELCOME & DISCLAIMER
WARM-O-RAMA:

SSH (4 ct IC) x 25; BAC (4ct IC -forward and reverse) x 10; OH Claps (4 ct IC) x 10; This and that; Tempo squats (IC) x 15.
THA-THANG:
This morning, we battle the Kraken with CMUs.  So, grab your CMU and make your way to one of 8 stations.  Complete the exercise at the station and then do a lap around the AO parking lot, past your last station to the next.  Each station’s exercise has a high rep or low rep choice.  You are free to pick either option.  You must carry your CMU on your lap around, alternating carry as follows:

Westbound:  Overhead carry (Cusak carry);

Southbound: Farmer carry, right hand

East bound: Tray carry out front;

Northbound: Farmer carry, left hand.

The stations are as follows (incl. rep choices):

  • Overhead press (25/40);
  • Froggy Crunches, 4 ct (15/25);
  • Curls (25/40);
  • Kettle Bell swings (25/40);
  • CMU Merkins (25/40);
  • Flutter Kicks w/ CMU held up (25/40);
  • Blockies (10/20); and
  • Goblet Squats (20/30).

I think we had enough time for everybody to complete one circuit. Very little mumblechatter today.  I’m guessing this was because the Pax was disappointed in how easy it was.  I’ll ramp it up next time.
MARY:
25s of Reverse Lunges and BBS, running Baby Everest in between.  Cut it short to gather at the top and watch a beautiful sunrise for a moment.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
On this day in 1954, Elvis made his debut on local Memphis radio with “That’s Alright Mama.”  It is a reminder to me that big things start small.  We don’t need to focus on some great challenge or goal all at once.  God gives the ability do great things by simply taking that small first step.  ” I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20).  The smallest seeds planted with faith still produce huge trees.  Let’s keep striving, regardless of how small our efforts seem.  They will bear fruit.
MOLESKIN:
Prayers offered today for Snag’s father and continued healing and recovery.  Prayers offered also to Snitch’s 2.0, Ava for a quick recovery from her accident, so that she won’t have any complications, and praises that it wasn’t more serious.  Also, we enjoyed quite the sunrise this morning with a beautiful rainbow.

F3 WELCOME & DISCLAIMER
WARM-O-RAMA:

Imperial walkers x10
Monkey humpers x10
Calf raises x10
Shoulder taps in plank x10
Four count merkins (hand release) x10
THA-THANG:
Mosey short half lap around the World’s Fair lawn and back to the sidewalk adjacent to the convention center.  Five cones set up in a line, spaced 12-15 yards apart for Bear With Me.  Bear crawl between cones, knock out exercises at each cone.  Recover mosey back to start and plank waiting on the six.

  • 20 pickle pounders
  • 20 merkins
  • 20 squats
  • 20 Carolina dry docks
  • 20 flutter kicks

Rinse and repeat for two rounds.  On the third round, Q called an audible: lunge walk between cones and cut reps in half.

Quick 10 count and mosey towards L&N.  Everyone grab a nice brick (really big stone paver) from L&N and jog it over to the war memorial.  Routine was supposed to be descending ladder, running through entire list of exercises, then repeating taking off the bottom exercise.  We only got through two rounds, but they sucked enough.  After each round, we ran the parking lot, up the stairs and back. Exercises as follows (sit ups and merkins without stones):

  • 40 curls
  • 35 sit ups
  • 30 merkins
  • 25 goblet squats
  • 20 front raises
  • 15 Lion kings
  • 10 Mr. Spectacular

Again, got through two rounds.  Which was painful enough after Amazon’s Saturday boulder beatdown.  I’ll definitely come back to this stone workout and run it from the beginning.

We did two rounds of 10 curls and 10 overhead tricep extensions, dropped our pavers off where we got them, and moseyed back to the SP for Mary.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
We always have discussions about being High Impact Men in F3.  At times, I’ve struggled with what that looks like for me and how I can have any impact, let alone high impact.  I came across a quote that made me think about the impact my F3 brothers have had on me, most of which were probably unaware because they were simply being themselves. Quote reads: “The awakened man has stepped away from living a life ruled by his mind and ego-self and is consciously connected to his heart.  He is not embarrassed to reveal his true colors.  He is redefining age-old beliefs of what a real man is, and by his example, calling other men to wipe the sleep from their eyes.”

These men that I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by in the gloom have unknowingly caused me to wipe the sleep from my eyes.  They have shown me small things and large which I have picked up, either consciously or not, which have improved my life and my relationships with people in my life.  My hope, and my way of having high impact, is to take the things they have shown me and pass them along to others. Aye!
