COUNT-OFF & NAME-O-RAMA

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

As you can probably tell, the premise of this morning was a reminder to take a step back at times and slow things down.

We’re all dealing with several different tasks, challenges, issues, etc in our daily lives but because of that it’s soo easy for us gloss over various things. The “hurry” can blind us and cause the cyclical process of pushing to finish something just to get to the next self appointed duty.

Think about our girlfriend/wife/kids/parents/friends for example

We need to make sure we’re not looking at our phones or working on a project vehicle and taking the time to interact with the significant people in our lives.

Another thought is the easy way to use being busy as an excuse not to volunteer or help people in need. When was the last time you did some community service or volunteered at your church?

We need to make sure we’re involved in other peoples lives and not just focused on our own.

Take a minutes today and slow things down…read a book….volunteer…meet someone for lunch.

TRUTH FOR TODAY

COUNT-OFF & NAME-O-RAMA
16 got it done this morning.
CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, you will know them by their fruits.” – Matthew 7:15‭-‬20 NASB1995

Are we good trees or bad trees? Regardless of our intentions, we are producing fruit in our lives. This is a reminder to be aware of how we conduct ourselves. We also need to surround ourselves with good influences. Our examples and the example we set for others have a big impact and can result in eternal consequences.

14 men

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

On June 28, 2005, Lt. Murphy was the officer-in-charge of a four-man SEAL element in support of Operation Red Wing tasked with finding key anti-coalition militia commander in Afghanistan. Shortly after inserting into the objective area, the SEALs were spotted by three goat herders who were initially detained and then released. It is believed the goat herders immediately reported the SEALs’ presence to Taliban fighters.

A fierce gun battle ensued on the steep face of the mountain between the SEALs and a much larger enemy force. Despite the intensity of the firefight and suffering grave gunshot wounds himself, Murphy is credited with risking his own life to save the lives of his teammates.

By the end of a two-hour gunfight that careened through the hills and over cliffs, Murphy, Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class (SEAL) Danny Dietz and Sonar Technician 2nd Class (SEAL) Matthew Axelson had fallen. An estimated 35 Taliban were also dead.  The fourth SEAL, Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class (SEAL) Marcus Luttrell, was blasted over a ridge by a rocket-propelled grenade and knocked unconscious. Though severely wounded, the fourth SEAL and sole survivor, Luttrell, was able to evade the enemy for nearly a day; after which local nationals came to his aide, carrying him to a nearby village where they kept him for three more days. Luttrell was rescued by U.S. Forces on July 2, 2005.

Lt. Murphy was buried at Calverton National Cemetery less than 20 miles from his childhood home. Lt. Murphy’s other personal awards include the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Ribbon and National Defense Service Medal.

COUNT-OFF & NAME-O-RAMA

Me and 11 of the best men I know.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

We say this in F3 – “leave no man behind – but leave no man where you found him“.  If you are striving to be a HIM, you will not be the same man next year that you were this year – because you are always growing, always be getting better.  This morning, we thought about which of the three Fs you will see growth in by the end of summer.

From Anders Ericsson’s book, “Peak: Secrets from the New Science of Expertise”. To be excellent at something, you need…

  • …feedback. You need to be another man to know your plan, to see your work, and to provide you with feedback on your performance.

For the area that you are going to see growth in, what does “feedback” look like?

  • …to get outside of your comfort zone. Anders tells us this may be the most essential aspect of purposeful practice. He puts it directly: “If you never push yourself beyond your comfort zone, you will never improve.”

For the area that you are going to see growth in, what does “outside your comfort zone” look like?

A few men shared their goals and how they are going to pursue feedback.
