CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
Several years ago I started to pray, very innocently and ignorantly, that God would remove anything that comes between he and I. I prayed that he would take this decade of my life and tear me down to the foundation if he needed to.  He has since and is still dismantling me and humbling me and teaching me and at times it is down right painful. Asking him to show me my agreements (lies that come out of my hurts and woundings) is one way he is teaching me. Another is through images that he gives us in scripture.  I like to hunt and be in the woods so this image I have been given lately that I can’t get out of mind takes place perhaps in the wilderness. Iit comes from Jeremiah 6:16 “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is and walk in it”. In my mind I am looking around and I am so busy that I can’t see what is right in front of me, what has been there the whole time.  I can’t see this slightly hidden but well beaten path unless I slow down and take my time, unless I engage, unless I remove the unnecessary things from my life. I am reminded that there are no short cuts. I have to push back the agreement that I make that says, “You are 35 and what do you have to show for it. Work harder, worry more, prove yourself” and believe that this time in my life is a time to take the low seat at the table. To purposefully choose what sometimes looks backwards to the world because I am not fighting for the top spot at the table. I am in search of the narrow gate Matthew 7:13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.  For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few”. I want to find and take the ancient path to the narrow gate. I want to be led to life. There is a way that has been made for me. I am pleased and honored to be on this path with you.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

Don’t Make It About You, Make it About the Team.

The people you have known who are great leaders, that you admired, that you would run through a brick wall for… did they tend to compliment and encourage others, or did they brag about their own accomplishments and take credit for themselves?  Strong leaders are those who have the confidence in themselves to give praise to others, thereby instilling pride in them and encouraging them to continue to put forth their best efforts.  During the retirement ceremony tight end Jason Witten, Coach Jason Garrett of the Dallas Cowboys described one of the things that made the future hall of famer so special, which was his humility and praise for his teammates.  He recalls in the clip below how Witten– when discussing one of the greatest plays of his career– gave praise to everyone else on the team for being an integral part to its success.  Witten wasn’t a rah rah guy, but he was universally respected for not only his talent as a player, but because of his team-first mentality.  We can all take a lesson from this, and take the time to lift someone else up, give them thanks and praise for being a part of your “team”, whether it’s your family, a sports team, your church group, your PAX.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

  • I feel like God has been tapping on my shoulder pretty intentionally in ways that I can only explain as divine appointment.
  • When you feel that, when you are, uh, awakened to that tapping or divine call, will you take it?
  • I’ve wrestled with mine for a couple weeks because it regards my job and the list goes on and on.
  • With that I’ve isolated myself. We talk a lot in F3 about the isolated male.
  • When you feel that calling or divine appointment, bring others into the fold and share that with them.
  • I guarantee any one of us are more than willing to walk with you in that.

  • What I was vaguely referring to up above in my word is this: 2 weeks ago I met with the YMCA of East TN COO. She was asking how my new role with the Downtown YMCA was going, thanks to the Knoxville Fellows. I told her I was enjoying it, but there was not a lot of concrete structure – it was more a shadowing/figuring it out on your own. And with this new role at the Y, which seems pretty unclear at times, I feel like there are all these things that I want to do to benefit members and add more value to the Y than “just being a gym.” One thing that the Lord has put on my heart within the past month is the idea of going deeper at work than just surface-level membership questions and support. More specifically, leading a bible-study or small-group, or book-study. After all, this is the Young Men’s Christian Association, and I feel a charge to bring back some light that I feel we as an organization have lost (a little).
  • When my COO brought up the idea of bringing back a bible study, etc into the Downtown Y – i knew that’s what the Lord had put on my heart. I could clearly hear His voice through my COO.
  • Fast forward to the next Monday: my direct boss was away and I was in his office, 10 minutes into being clocked in, with my bible open, starting my day off thinking about what my COO said, and the idea of a bible study being brought back into the Y and honestly – feeling really insecure and negative and doubtful about it. The next thing I’m about to say can only be divine appointment: around the corner and into the office comes a man and the first words out of his mouth were “Hey man, do y’all do any bible studies here?”
  • My jaw literally dropped. To me, this was clearly the Lord putting this man in front of me as affirmation that his voice had been made clear. I got to talking to the man, and through our conversation it became more apparent this is something I feel called to do.
  • Later that week (Wednesday) I was walking home from work and saw the man outside after recently talking with a friend about the experience, and he asked again about the bible study. This was uncanny – it was Christ.
  • I’ve felt convicted about my doubts for this after clearly seeing the the call of God for this through this divine appointment – I knew what to do.
  • However, when I was feeling doubtful, I was isolating myself – what we talk about in F3 as the isolated male. My BOM today was about answering the taps on the shoulder from the Lord and inviting other men and HIM and people into the fold and grace of that – so you don’t isolate yourself.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
In life there are physical storms like people have experienced with Hurricane Florence.  We should prepare for those with things like insurance, etc…   Just like those storms, we will face storms of life.  As men, we tend to try to do things alone, but we need to have brothers/close friends/accountability partners that we can turn to and rely on when those storms come.  We shouldn’t face things alone and should have someone we can be 100% open with.
MOLESKIN:
It was great to welcome a FNG this morning, aka Right Guard.  Prayers for Herbie’s daughter still trying to recover from sickness and for A-Rod doing the HTL this weekend.
