ROCKY 3 IS GREAT BECAUSE YOU SEE HIM GO FROM BEING ON TOP TO BEING LOW. HE EVENTUALLY ADAPTS AND CHANGES HIM SELF AND GROWS FROM IT. THERES A QUOTE FROM ROCKY BALBOA THAT SUMS IT UP

“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

Hopefully today you’ve been exposed to a new workout. The goal was to get us out of our comfort zone a little.
Think about your daily routine a little. Maybe you come here, eat, run to the office, do some sort of hobby or kid activity, etc.
What if your best laid plans and goals were thrown off for some reason….there are terrible ways that can happen like losing your job or an accident, but there are also positive ways like job opportunities, unexpected callings or kids
The character of a person…and in this case a MAN… is how you react in those situations. I don’t want a show of hands, but if you cringed or had a negative reflection of how you would probably react…then you need to remember that gods in control. You should feel comfort in Him and fall back on your values and trusts that you are in good hands.
Sometimes He like to take us out of our comfort zones and frankly laughs at them. He’s laughed at mine twice over the past year…
Matthew chapter 4
Jesus, God’s son is the trustworthy one
On the heals of fathers day, this hits home to me because those unexpected calls have caused me to hesitate…which to me has seemed like a failure in grasping His plan for me and our family. However, he’s trusting in me to care for his children and I hope that I can be the father and the example that they need

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

This past weekend, YHC participated in the Barbarian Challenge, and obstacle course race near Gadsden, AL. This was a 6+ mile course with 35 obstacles. YHC realized that this was more of a mental challenge than a physical challenge. There were obstacles that played on people’s fear of heights in particular which included walking across a log with a 20 foot drop into the creek and several others.

In particular, the final obstacle was meant to capitalize on the participant’s fear; a 30 foot tower (YHC is guessing) that consisted of a cargo net climb to the top, jumping a chasm to grab on to a bar to pull yourself across. The worst part was the announcer commentating on every person that came to the chasm and the crowd surrounding the tower. Many people froze in fear. YHC had to listen to one person stuck for the entire entry to the final obstacle. Just when YHC summitted the tower, the Beastie Boys came on, fear dissipated, all thinking ceased, and big leap was made.

Mark Divine, in his book, Staring Down the Wolf tells a Native American tale of a negative wolf that resides in the minds of humans. This wolf operates from fear, is hungry for drama, catastrophizes, and has incessant negative talk. It begs for your attention. But there is also a second wolf residing in the hearts of all humans. This one has an appetite for love and connection. It does not need the drama. It is optimistic and simply asks to be noticed. The one that controls you in the one you feed the most.

It’s our job to put ourselves in scenarios to create the conversation between our mind and heart, the whiner and the whisperer. The more we conquer our fear, the more we feed the positive wolf and the stronger it gets. The more we give into our fears, the more we feed the negative wolf and live from it.

YHC explained that his personal signs of fear are hesitation, procrastination, excuse making, and anxiety. It’s our job to recognize the voice of fear for what it is and push through.

2 Tim 1:7 says, “For God has not given you a spirit of fear but one of power, and of love, and of sound judgement.”

MOLESKIN:
All PAX pushed through a grinder today. Well done! It’s an honor to be in the gloom with you fellas! Don’t forget our Rampart Motto! There will be a test Wednesday.

God’s Identity Papers
With the war in Ukraine, with the long list of public shootings occurring over the past two months, including those in Buffalo, New York and Uvalde, Texas, with the inflation we are coping with in 2022, with the continuing Covid numbers that faded but now seem to be rising again, it is easy to lose sight of God.  We worry about the state of the world and continue to hear from news pundits and politicians about what should be done or, even more often, what isn’t being done.  God, where are you in this process?
Maybe this is a time when we should slow down . . . in order to allow our senses to hear God, to see Him, to feel Him, to taste and discover Him.  Where is He?
Let me read you a poem that my pastor, Shaun Slate told our congregation about.
I Wake Close To Morning by Mary Oliver
Why do people keep asking to see
God’s identity papers
when the darkness opening into morning
is more than enough?
Certainly any god might turn away in disgust.
Think of Sheba approaching
the kingdom of Solomon.
Do you think she had to ask,
“Is this the place?”

I am often guilty of failing to see God when the evidence is there before my very eyes.  The world spins in the same pattern daily, the days of the year remain the same, each season returns, the stars gaze at us from the sky, the birds in the air, the animals of the earth, the mountainous majesty, the waves of the ocean, all speak of the majesty of God.  Is it harder to believe when we see wars and shootings?  Maybe so.  But remember when Christ came to Earth over 2000 years ago?  What was the state of the world then?  Wasn’t their war and bloodshed then?  The Romans ruled much of Europe, the Middle East and parts of Asia through a bloody and deadly war campaign.  The Romans were often vicious, using people as slaves, hanging people on crosses in public areas to remind people to fear the Roman Empire or else.  And Christ, the one who Christians like me believe is the loving representation of God, was hung by those very Romans on a cross for all to witness.  It was hard for Christ’s disciples to believe.  But Christ showed Himself to them.

Where is God in these uneasy times we face?  Allow God to show Himself to you.  His identity papers are all around us.  Let us open our eyes and see.

MOLESKIN:
Prayers for all those impacted by the war in Ukraine and by the recent shootings in the United States.  Prayers for Steam’s safe travels to Kentucky next week and for all our brothers who are traveling.
