THE SCENE: Cool 40-42 degrees, clear
F3 WELCOME & DISCLAIMER
WARM-O-RAMA:

We got started with some SSH, Merkins, big arm circles, squats and cherry pickers
THA-THANG:
Since no one was signed up to Q and Training Wheels said he would take the first “ten” minutes, we moseyed over to the big flag. Since Training Wheels has never done a Seabiscuit before, we will call this a Training Biscuit. It is: Run one lap (1/4mile) then do 25 of each exercise below. Do two laps then exercises……three laps-exercises , then back to two-exercises. We all finished together with a mosey back to the AO. The exercises were 25 of each:

  • Merkins
  • Squats
  • Dips
  • Big boys/LBCs

MARY:
Bartman and Snitch led us in Box cutters, side crunches and flutters
COUNT-OFF & NAME-O-RAMA

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
Training wheels talked about seeing the movie about Mr. Rogers with his wife last night. He shared with us about how Fred Rogers goal was to make every child feel special. TW was really looking for a group of men to be Christian leaders in Knoxville. He was very thankful for finding F3 and really wants to motivate us to become spiritual leaders.
MOLESKIN:
Not a lot of mumble chatter as there was a lot of running today. It’s hard to breathe and talk.

Prayer Lessons ITG

Prayer Lessons ITG

Everyone knows the drill.  The alarm goes off, you get dressed, drive to the AO, put in work, name-o-Rama, pray. Rinse and repeat.

Pray.  Hmmm, that one stands out.

What I have seen and learned in my time at F3 is that we as men need male bonding, that is no surprise, but we also need God, and we need prayer. The male bonding part is easy, and I can honestly say my closest friends of all time are men I’ve met in the gloom. They’ve helped me grow, as a man and in my faith.  Many of them might not know it, but it wasn’t just going through the motions, it is how they live life, and how they pray. To see how they have walked with God is truly an inspiration.

No one ever said life was easy, and the men at DogPound have seen all the bad, divorce, overdose, car accidents, death, sick kids, sick wives, job loss, and most recently the ongoing battle with cancer. There has also been much joy to combat the bad which is always a blessing. However, what has stayed with me is how these men through everything good and bad, has been to pray.  Prayer has been a focal point in everyone of those situations. Praying together in gloom.  Praying alone about those in need.  A text message or post requesting prayer.  A reminder to pray for someone. Day to day through adversity, celebration, and whatever comes their way, they remain calm and steadfast not only in their actions, their undying trust in God,  their support of one another, but in how they pray.

I wanted to share because prayer hits home for me.  My biggest fear about leading my first Q wasn’t the exercises, cadence, not even the public speaking.  But public praying?  Well that’s not my thing. I’ll be the first to admit even now when I pray it still isn’t fancy. I’m not eloquent like Junk or La-z-boy.  I don’t have Bible verses come to me during prayer.  I still say “uh” a lot, and there are lots of awkward pauses. I’m basically still one step above the old faithful “Now I lay me down to sleep…”.  For me, I know I have never left the BOM thinking “dude, I rocked that prayer”.  But truthfully the men in my Wolfpack have taught me that doesn’t even matter.  What I’ve seen is that it’s not about how you pray, where you pray, what you pray, but it is to just to pray. Just pray. Taking time to speak with God. Thanking him for all that He has given you, good and bad, and then laying your joys and concerns at His feet.  Submitting, asking, and allowing for His plan for our lives.

I believe God always answers prayers. Always. It might not be the answer we want, and it might not be when we want it, but He answers. He opens doors while closing others. And because of that He just wants us to pray.

It took me a long time to understand that, and I am thankful for these men who have helped me.

“We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭15:1-2‬ ‭

We talked about mentorship and how we need to mentor others around us. Be a good mentor to our children but also look for opportunities to serve others outside of our family. Mentor a child, or another man who may need your help. Do it for them and God’s glory and not yourself.
MOLESKIN:
We had a good time this morning using our brands with some Christmas trivia. Here are some sadly that we missed. What holiday did George Costanza‘s father create on Seinfeld?, What city was baby Jesus from? Who sang the song Feliz Navidad?  How many wisemen were there on the day Jesus was born?  How many miles did Joseph and Mary travel to Bethlehem?  What was the name of Ralphies brother on a Christmas story? What was the name of the neighbors with the dogs in a Christmas story? If you are reading these and know the answers, put it on the equalizer thread and you will win a prize. Don’t use your phone!

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
Talked about suffering.  I’ve had several people I’ve been walking with who are going thru some serious suffering.  Seems like we all know people in our life who are in the midst of it.  You just have to live long enough and you will suffer.

I’ve been reading thru Job.  Reminded the guys about Satan coming to God, God pointing out Job, and Satan’s accusation that Job is ONLY worshipping God because of how much God has blessed him.  So, God allows Satan to take away those blessings and Job enters probably the most extreme suffering known on earth.  Job’s faith was being tested to see if it was genuine.  Was he worshipping God for the gifts God had given him or because God was God?

Job said — “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”

The test of suffering is coming to each one of us, and we probably have friends walking thru it right now.  Let’s come alongside them, pray and encourage them, and bless the name of the Lord.
