And now some good news:
Behold the Man upon a cross, my sin upon His shoulders;
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held Him there until it was accomplished;
His dying breath has brought me life, I know that it is finished.
Isaiah 53:5

But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

They call me Frenchie and its July, when the best cyclists in the world flog themselves in the mountains of France. Today we paid them tribute.  Fitting for the day, Code Brown came flying down the hill on his bike in impressive fashion just before we kicked things off.  11 strong for a Tuesday at the Asylum. It was an honor and a privilege to lead such a strong group of men.

Two Types of Commitment:
Constraint
– Constraining commitment is forced
– Feels like a stifling of our freedom

Dedication
– Dedication commitment is a choice
– Feels like an exercise of our freedom

The reason we tend to fall back on constraint commitments is that it places the responsibility of our commitment onto someone else.
– We want the results, but aren’t willing to shoulder the responsibility.
– I believe this give us insight into why “accountability partners/groups” so rarely work!  They are a constraint commitment.

I think the perfect example of this is the person of Jesus and his work on the cross.
Hebrews 12:1-2
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

What are your physical, relational and spiritual commitments?  Are they marked by constraint or dedication?

Q-citement

I still get it it too. I was up at 3:05 this morning calling out “the next exercise is” in my head, hoping this Q today went well. But it happens all the time and I was having a real hard time getting back to sleep.

Then I prayed a simple prayer, “Lord help me get some rest so I can lead will this morning. Be with me as I got to F3, and be present in that AO with us.” After that I felt relaxed and went back to sleep.

What I found curious this morning is how easy it is to take God the big things sometimes, job, house, kids, but how we forget to take him the small things.

Have you ever been in a really really dark room with no light? And then when you see the tiniest of tiny specks of light how it seems so bright? That’s God in our world. And when we take stuff to Him he makes the whole room light up like the sun.  But we should constantly take stuff to Him, big and small, so that the room is always light and we can see.

Lastly, many of you don’t know but I have been trying to put into my life the concept that, I am 3rd. God first, others second, and myself 3rd. I encourage you to do the same, and I encourage you to go out into this world and share with others about that tiny speck of light in the darkness, and how He can save our soul.

The opposite of manhood isn’t womanhood, it’s boyhood!  Our goal as HIMs is to always be moving forward own the road of maturity (RFP).  What F3 has taught me is that growth (physical, relational and spiritual) comes through challenge, consistency and comradery.

  • Physical: Take your DRP (Daily Red Pill)
    • Challenge – Get up and get out in the gloom!
    • Consistency – Daily
    • Comradery – the PAX
  • Relational: No lone ranger
    • Challenge – Reject passivity and engage with family, friends, co-workers and neighbors
    • Consistency – Daily
    • Comradery – the PAX
  • Spiritual: Luke 9:23, “And he said to all, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.’”
    • Challenge – Obedience and faithfulness
    • Consistency – Daily
    • Comradery – the PAX and Jesus himself (“follow me”)

MOLESKIN
This morning we had a special guest from a local news affiliate.  He came to do an online piece on F3.  He asked if I thought I could get a good sized group out on a Wednesday morning at 5:30am…61 PAX including 3 FNGs answered with a resounding “HELL YEA!”  For me, this sums up F3 Knoxville.  Over the pas 18 months this PAX has set the bar and then surpassed it when it comes to heart, passion, and dedication.  They work hard, play hard and always have each other’s six.  There is absolutely no questions…I’m a better man for being a part of this PAX, and Knoxville is a better city due to what these men are doing in each other.
