BOM: Living out of a condition of Fear.

Life comes at us fast. We may not even realize we are constantly living out of a condition of fear.  Fear of failing.  Fear of being hurt.  Fear of missing out on something.  Another way to explain this condition is “anxiety”.   We’ve all experienced anxiety in different areas of our lives. Financial anxiety; will we have enough money to pay the bills, to go on a vacation, to pay for kid’s braces? Emotional (relationships) anxiety; Will I ever be happy? Are my kids happy?  My wife? Will I end up being alone? Work and Career anxiety: Am I on track? Am I stuck in a dead-end?  Do I have security?  Does my boss even know I’m here?  House, Cars, Kids, Church, Family, School, Work, etc. OVERWHELMED!

What’s the answer??   It’s right there staring us in the face – FAITH.  The Third F!  Let your Faith be bigger than your Fear.  Go read Hebrews chapter 11.  Amen, Brothers.

BOM:
We live in an action-packed/fast paced society where we want everything quickly. Today was a Baseball/Spring Training workout. People don’t like baseball- it’s too slow, too boring… look for the details of life that need and deserve your attention. Enjoy the moment, the details of life. Slow down and be in the game!

WORD
Intensity is important, but for short duration.  Forget the hour long meetings, hour long back-breaker workouts – strive for 10-20 minutes of high intensity every hour and make those moments count.  Do this in your “service” – to God, country, family, friends, and service for those who you don’t know, and yourself.

BOM:
Kids attitude towards death and heaven. Example of my daughter Molly. We told her about her grandmother dying and that she is in a much better place with God in heaven now and she simply replied: “that’s great! Can I have a waffle now.”
She got it, she simply knew that her grandmother was in a better place, that she is with our father in paradise. A comforting fact that we can bank on as believers.
It can also motivate us to reach out to the lost and help lead them to eternal peace and fellowship with other believers in paradise.

“Spiritual warfare is not fighting darkness to restore wholeness.  It is fighting darkness to release virtue.” Larry Crabb

“Do not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good.” Rom. 12:21

Understanding that our world is marked conflict and struggle impacts our understanding and experience of the world.  For example:

  • When we find ourselves experiencing hard times we don’t need to be blindsided…it is normal. This world isn’t as it should be.
  • The good that is in the world is worth fighting for!
    • The love of a spouse
    • The love of our kids
    • The innocence of children
    • Relief and of the oppressed
    • The preservation of what is good, right and lovely.
  • The importance of vigilance and “training in righteousness!”
    • Not perfection, simply doing what’s right.

We have another compelling reason to lock shields with other like-minded men. Despite what we see in movies and on TV, men don’t survive war alone…they survive and thrive within a team…within a TRIBE.
