Add a tag for Half Sheet, 20 in attendance today.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
Abscess spoke about growth of F3, Asulym, Juco, and how it spawned into Shamrock through the leadership of Booster & Judge Judy.  Mermaid spoke briefly about the origin of Shamrock after the Shovel Flag was passed to him.  St. Patrick is a Saint recognized by the Catholic Church.  He was a missionary to Ireland, and as legend has it, he used the Shamrock and it’s three leaves to teach the Irish people about the trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit).  F3 also has three branches (Fitness, Fellowship, & Faith).  I like the symbolism of the Shamrock, and it is a reminder to us, as it is found all over the campus.

COUNT-OFF & NAME-O-RAMA

5 of the best men I know

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

In October 1968, Apollo 7 became the first of the Apollo space missions to carry men into space.  In the alphabetized progression of the Apollo Program objectives, Apollo 7 was launched for “C-Mission” – “Manned flight to demonstrate performance and operability of the Command and Service Module (CSM)”.  It was the first time a Saturn IB vehicle put a crew into space; it was the first three-person American space mission, and the first to include a live TV broadcast from an American spacecraft.  The untried CSM – that bullet-shaped craft – performed splendidly.  The mission was a complete technical success.  They achieved every technical objective and paved the way for Apollo 8 two months later to orbit the moon – and eventually Apollo 11 to land on the surface of the moon, one of mankind’s most historic and awesome moments.

It turns out, though, that one of the crew had a dormant cold which eventually spread to the others.  All three men were coughing, sneezing, and congested in that tiny space together (quarantined).  You might imagine that blowing your nose in space is not the most comfortable thing – it is messy and causes considerable pain to the eardrums.  Uncomfortable and unable to get away for even a moment, they grew irritable with each other.  They complained to ground control about the food.  Disregarding the insistence of their mission commandeers, they refused to wear their helmets during re-entry.  If you read some of the recorded dialogue between the crew and ground control, even the words in black and white convey discomfort and displeasure in their circumstances.

The Apollo 7 crew made it back to earth safety and accomplished every single mission objective.  But none of those three men would ever visit space again…NASA rejected them for consideration for future missions.  Until Apollo 7, our nation had a longstanding and uninterrupted practice of immediately awarding returning astronauts the Distinguished Service Medal.  Because of their conduct, the crew of Apollo 7 was denied that high honor – the only time that has happened (fifty years later, they were awarded their medals posthumously).

These last several weeks, we’ve all been off our normal rhythms.  In some ways, life has been just a little bit more difficult or awkward – that might be from trying to homeschool your kids at night while keeping up with work commitments.  It might be stress from cabin fever or close quarters or fear of the unknown.  If you are like me – or like the Apollo 7 astronauts – maybe those extra stresses have shortened your fuse and made you a little more self-centered.

During this time, you have mission technical objectives – to keep your kids fed, to make sure their homework gets completed, to check in with your boss and finish reports, to keep everyone healthy, etc.  It may even feel a little heroic for getting these things checked off your to-do list despite the added burden.  But don’t believe for a moment that simply accomplishing these tasks equals success.  Success is more than a milestone or a check in a box.  Success is about doing those things with grace and composure and love

The Apostle Paul said (paraphrasing 1 Corinthians 13:1-7).  If I could speak all languages, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noise.  If I possessed all knowledge, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing.  If I gave everything I have to the poor, but didn’t love them, I would have gained nothing.  Love is patient and kind.  Love is not rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.  Love is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance.

In spite of any current difficultly or discomfort, you need to be focused on more than just meeting the day’s technical objectives – because that alone is not success.  To have a successful day, you also need to show honor, love, grace, compassion, and affection to those around you

1 Corinthians 13: 1-7 (NLT).  “If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.  If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.  Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
This extra time at home with my family has made me realize how easy it is to take our loved ones for granted.  I have been able to more-readily witness all of the things my wife does for our family and how little recognition and appreciation she receives for it.  It hit me the other day that I had not shown any affection to my wife all day, despite being in the same house.  I couldn’t believe how complacent I had become.  I want to encourage everyone to take advantage of the time you have each day to let your loved ones know how much you care for them. Show them how much they are appreciated and let them know as often as possible!

2 lines or one depending on number of people to the peace bell.

This Q was in honor to chaco for his birthday. I learned a couple of things about him, he played around with surfing for a bit. So every time we do a burpee its a surfee (land on back foot in surfer position).
At the peace bell do the F3 Individual Medley: Swimming has the individual medley (IM), swim all 4 strokes in one event. Start with 7 reps of each exercise.
  • 7 Burpees
  • 7 Merkins
  • 7 2 count flutter kicks,

Get a 10 count break then mosey to K25 hill.
Chaco liked Chuck Norris, but he isn’t in lexicon. So I did find Charles Bronson.  Here is modified Bronson.
3 cones. First two about 80 yards, the second cone is ten yards after that. We are modifying this to have hill sprints instead of staring sprint to second cone. At starting point, perform:

  • Lunge x 3 each leg
  • Run up sidewalk and the next to the Pull-up bars
  • Alternating AMRAP pull-ups (palms pronated aka facing away from you) & chin-ups (supenated aka palms facing away from you) -> suggested reps is 5 each round but if a PAX could not continue to do any pull-ups suggested substitution was an “eccentric pull-up hang” which is defined as jumping up and starting with your head at or above the bar and doing a ~10-second hang lowering yourself as slowly as possible to still get the workout in for reps.
  • Jog/run back down the stairs to the CMU station

Repeat the circuit for 10 minutes then recover at the CMU station at the bottom

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM + MOLESKIN:

We have lots of questions about the future with COVID-19. In thinking about all that we need, what should come first? When I considered this, I was reminded of when Judge Judy or someone else posts “ISI” in the F3 GroupMe. What does he mean by this, you ask? He’s referring “Iron Sharpens Iron” and to the following verse from Proverbs 27:17 – Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.

Proverbs was written by Solomon the wisest man (save Christ) to ever live.

Q: In these times of social distancing, uncertainty, and worry, where did he say to start?
A: Start with wisdom.

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs has SO MUCH to say about wisdom, but there are 3 aspects of it we’re covering today:

1. Get wisdom – Proverbs 4:7 The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, & whatever you get, get insight.
Seek after wisdom. We know this, but we have to do it. Don’t leave it to chance to get it- walk with wise men (Proverbs 13:20). The opposite is true (1 Corinthians 15:33) and it won’t happen haphazardly but with inteionality. Read the Bible, especially Proverbs (& James which is the “Proverbs of the New Testament”), and seek out men who are wise to learn from.

2. Listen to othersProverbs 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.
We want to think we know so much, especially if we’re reading a lot and getting a lot of good knowledge and information. But to truly be wise, we MUST not only listen to others but seek their input. This was exemplified when I was in college and vacuuming out my parents’ garage because it was messy with leaves and debris that had blown in- they hadn’t even asked me to do it. Then my dad came out into the garage and suggested I use a different attachment on the vacuum when I thought I was “doing just fine.” But that morning I’d read Proverbs 12 and this verse came to mind, I was convicted, and changed what I was doing per my dad’s suggestion… and (of course) it worked better than what I was doing. Listen to others!

3. Listen THEN give wisdomProverbs 18:13 If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly & shame.
Last but not least, we must listen and then give advise. We don’t cast our pearls before swine (Matthew 7:6), but we do need to speak in due time. Giving an apt reply (Proverbs 15:23, Proverbs 25:11) is something we have to work at, constantly fight for to both hush AND speak in God’s timing for a situation while we walk in the Spirit.

After reading this, the Q explained we’d be reading what is written below about Solomon asking for wisdom from God, but to honor social distancing and to be bold we got on our knees and prayed after taking several prayer requests: Mermaid’s parents being a little flippant about the Coronavirus, Trolley asked for pery about his family and all those over Knox County’s Spring Break with all of the kids and everyone in homes on mostly self-quarrantines, and Guardrail’s daughter is coming back early from her mission trip to Nicaragua because of the way the virus is continuing to spread.

1 Kings 3:5-9

5 At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, “Ask what I shall give you.” 6 And Solomon said, “You have shown great and steadfast love to your servant David my father, because he walked before you in faithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart toward you. And you have kept for him this great and steadfast love and have given him a son to sit on his throne this day. 7 And now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, although I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in. 8 And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, too many to be numbered or counted for multitude. 9 Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”

May God grant our prayer for wisdom, to give us understanding because we do not know anything compared to the riches of wisdom that flow from Him in Christ (1 Corinthians 1:24)!
