CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:
Q talked about the importance of discipline maintaining proper form during exercises, something JUCO is going to emphasize from now on.  This discipline transitions into everyday life, to include our walk with Christ. Q emphasized believers need to be bold in sharing their faith, something that can be costly at times – even at the cost of close relationships with family in the Q’s case.  Most people are one relationship away from hope that is found in Jesus.  Do you love him? Do you talk about him with others? God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him. BE BOLD.
MOLESKIN:
The PAX worked hard and noticed a difference in the amount of reps they could complete when they paid attention to form.  Great lesson and one we will continue to hold each other accountable on.  If you are cheating at the workouts, you are likely cheating in other areas of your life.  Let’s Go!

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

One thing that many of us worry about in regarding to Q’ing a workout is giving the message, the BOM, at the end of the workout. We might think “I can’t speak the way that some people can.”  “I don’t have anything wise or good to say.”  “I’m not religious enough.”  “I will screw it up.”

You don’t have to deliver a long speech for the BOM.  Also, you need not know the bible well or deliver a message that must pass religious muster.  Just speak about something you have learned, something important to you, something that might help others.  Not everyone will respond the same way but I can almost guarantee that some of your brothers will get something out of your message.  I personally love hearing what different brothers have to say, the little pearls of life wisdom they can share with me.  And, as for your ability to speak well, thing about Moses, the great leader of the Israelites that led them from Egypt to Isreal:

From Exodus 4: 10-12

10 But Moses said to the Lord, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.” 11 Then the Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.”

As to worrying about screwing up, your brothers are on your side no matter what.  And, screwing up is what we do.  Think of Abraham Lincoln.  The following list is from an article by Ron Kurtus:

A common list of the failures of Abraham Lincoln (along with a few successes) is:

  • 1831 – Lost his job
  • 1832 – Defeated in run for Illinois State Legislature
  • 1833 – Failed in business
  • 1834 – Elected to Illinois State Legislature (success)
  • 1835 – Sweetheart died
  • 1836 – Had nervous breakdown
  • 1838 – Defeated in run for Illinois House Speaker
  • 1843 – Defeated in run for nomination for U.S. Congress
  • 1846 – Elected to Congress (success)
  • 1848 – Lost re-nomination
  • 1849 – Rejected for land officer position
  • 1854 – Defeated in run for U.S. Senate
  • 1856 – Defeated in run for nomination for Vice President
  • 1858 – Again defeated in run for U.S. Senate
  • 1860 – Elected President (success)

The fact is that we are supposed to screw up as leaders.  That is how we learn and how we grow.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

Obviously the world has a lot of things going on these days.  A lot of bad things.  A lot of the things people want to see changed.  But, a lot of people want to just snap their fingers and have it all fixed. They want to go to bed one night in a world full of problems, then wake up the next morning with all those problems solved.

This got me thinking about leading during troubled times and one of my favorite books, “Leaders Eat Last”, by Simon Sinek.  In his book he writes:

“Good leadership is like exercise.  We do not see any improvement to our bodies with day-to-day comparisons.  In fact, if we only compare the way our bodies look on a given day to how it looked on the previous day we would think our efforts had been wasted.  It’s only when we compare pictures of ourselves over a period of weeks or months that we can see a stark difference.  The impact of leadership is best judged over time.”

This resonates with me right now.  Because right now the world needs SUSTAINED leadership.  Not quick fix leadership.  Not a few leaders focusing on the next news cycle.  Not a few leaders saying, “Look what I did”   Right now we need millions of leaders.  Leaders who are more concerned with making an impact than they are with making headlines.  Leaders who are focused on making a difference and improving the lives of our fellow human beings.

Sometimes we all want to see a more immediate impact from our efforts.  But, sometimes that’s just not the timeline the world is on.  More often than not we’re part of the timeline where we’re pushing a giant boulder up a mountain.  It’s actually rare to be the one who pushes it over the top.  With it being unlikely that we will get any recognition for our efforts it becomes imperative to remember why we are pushing that boulder up that mountain.

And, to remember that when results come slowly that we cannot give up.  That our efforts have not been wasted.  And, that our leadership is best judged over time.  We have to remember why we are serving as leaders.  We have to remember it’s all to make the world a better place for our fellow human beings.

“Leadership is not a license to do less.  It’s a responsibility to do more.  Leadership takes work.  It takes time and energy.  The effects are not always easily measured and they are not always immediate.  But, leadership is always a commitment to human beings.”  ~ Simon Sinek

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

In this time of covid I’ve been skipping church and missing worship.  After church I watch the sermons but fast foreword through worship. This is not good. God caught my heart with some awesome songs by Jeremy Camp over the weekend and it brought me to worship quickly.  I miss worship greatly and once I started to worship it really lifted my heart.  I encourage you my brothers to not forsake worship.. Your heart needs it.  During our workout today I brought around a little speaker and played some rockin worship. I hope it inspired you to press on through the tough times. There are some awesome Christian artists out there today producing great songs. I highly recommend  Jeremy Camp, Sanctus Real, Zach Williams, Unspoken, David Crowder, Austin French, Toby Mac, Big Daddy Weave.  Those were the artists of the playlist we listened to while working out. Then at the end I handed out the lyrics of “Indestructible Soul” by Jeremy Camp.

My flesh may fail me, but my future is secure. These lies may break me down, But one thing is for sure. I will fight again, Find the fire again, For me to live is Christ and to die is gain.  I give it all away, ‘Cause these worldly things will not be the end of me
I know my soul is indestructible
When I’m standing in Your love My fear, it turns to dust
I’ve got this hope, and it’s unbreakable
No power strong enough, Nothing can overcome
My indestructible soul
My indestructible soul
I’m walking in the truth that life is in Your hands, Knowing You go before me helps me understand. That You’re my defense, What can stand against.
I know the darkness has no chance. How You lift me up. Keep my eyes above, And now I’m running free.
I know my soul is indestructible
When I’m standing in Your love, My fear, it turns to dust
I’ve got this hope, and it’s unbreakable
No power strong enough, Nothing can overcome
My indestructible soul
My indestructible soul
There’s no fire, there’s no pain That can take my peace away. There’s no wall I can’t climb, When it’s You that leads the way. There’s no fire, there’s no pain That can take my peace away There’s no wall I can’t climb When it’s You that leads the way
My soul is indestructible
When I’m standing in Your love My fear, it turns to dust
I know my soul is indestructible
When I’m standing in Your love My fear, it turns to dust
I’ve got this hope, and it’s unbreakable
No power strong enough Nothing can overcome
My indestructible soul
My indestructible soul
My indestructible soul
My indestructible soul

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Pom Pom and GiJane for Wednesday.  Welcome FNG “West Coast”!!

To Infinity and Beyond

THE SCENE: Low 70’s but a beat steamy; perfect beat down weather

WARM-O-RAMA: 4ct SSH (IC) x 25; 4ct Plank Jacks (IC) x 10; 4ct Iron Mikes (IC) x 5

THA-THANG: Mosey toward upper lot in figure 8 pattern stopping for plank jacks and squats at various intervals.

Infinite pain stations in upper lot – 6 cones spread out in upper lot creating a figure 8 course, PAX ran (OYO) to each cone and performed the workout listed – began at 20 reps and reduced by 1 at each cone; Cone 1: SSH, Cone 2: BBS, Cone 3: Plank Jacks, Cone 4: Iron Mikes, Cone 5: Squat Jumps, and Cone 6: Carolina Dry Docks.

Saint Patty Circle of Pain – PAX spread out around short brick circle wall; round 1: 1 HIM at a time performed 5 dips while the rest of the PAX did jump ups/step ups; Round 2: 1 HIM ata a time performed 5 incline merkins while the rest of the PAX did dips (or squats once arms were dead).

Bonus push – Indian plank train headed back toward AO; all PAX lined in single file line doing plank, HIM at 6 runs to front of line and resumes plank, rinse and repeat to move the train forward; paused for Rocky Balboa’s for 90 seconds; mosied back through the figure 8 circuit near AO pausing occasionally for plank jacks, SSH, and LBC.  Arrived back at the AO with just enough time for some cherry pickers to end with a stretch.

MARY: No time for this.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM: Rambled a bit about the weight and magnitude of standing before other men and proclaiming the words given to us by our Almighty God, Savior, and Heavenly Father – humility should be felt and care should be had.  Mentioned the imperfection of those sharing wisdom in our worlds, whether it is CNN, FOX, or Snapchat… they do not know all and are sinful people with bias.  The only perfect man with all truth was Jesus and He is our only hope.  So instead of seeking wisdom and guidance and opinion-verification from sinful, passing men, we would do better to humble ourselves before a benevolent and grace-filled Heavenly Father.  Shared Psalm 139:23-24. Prayed for mercy, grace, and healing in our communities and throughout the whole world.
