A Psalm of Life
BY HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW

Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each to-morrow
Find us farther than to-day.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.

In the world’s broad field of battle,
In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!

Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act,— act in the living Present!
Heart within, and God o’erhead!

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o’er life’s solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.

WARM-O-RAMA:

  • Mountain Climbers x10 (4 ct.)
  • Squat Jumps x10
  • Merkins x10
  • Superman Swims x10
  • Burpees x5 (OYO)

THA-THANG:

Get a battle buddy. Set up 5 circuits with cones around the perimeter of the north half of WFP field. Each station had 2 exercises. You and battle buddy did 20 reps of each exercise together. Rinsed and repeat until time is called at 6:00 AM. We all did about 2.5 times through the 5 cicuit.

  • Circuit 1: Mountain Climbers (4 ct.) and Squat Jumps
  • Circuit 2: Dry Docks and Flutter Kicks (4 ct.)
  • Circuit 3: Merkins and Lunges
  • Circuit 4: Supermans and Hello Dollies (4 ct.)
  • Circuit 5: (benches by fountains): Dips and Derkins

Next excercise…

Line up at northern end of WFP field. Battle buddies lined up along the edge of grass. Then they perform the following sequence.

  1. Battle Buddy 1 performs 10 BBS while Battle Buddy 2 holds their feet in a plank position.
  2. Battle Buddy 2 switches to alternating between 10 Merkins and 10 Squats while Battle Buddy 1 sprints to the first cone and performs 2 Burpees, sprints back, sprints to second cone and does 4 Burpees, then sprints to where they started.
  3. Switch, Battle Buddy 2 then performs the progression.

Do as many repetitions as you can in 15 minutes.

CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

“Where is God at work in your life?” a mentor asked me one day. I didn’t know what to say. Oftentimes God is standing in the middle of ourfear, inviting us to run towards it.

Part of being a High Impact Man is rejecting passivity. Oftentimes as men we avoid conflict, shrink back when we are challenged or feel intimidated, or we just check out when we get stressed or feel discouraged. We must choose to reject that natural tendency of passivity and step towards that fear knowing that God will meet us in the middle of it!

Challenge: Where is God inviting you into your fear today?

MOLESKIN:
An excerpt from the book, “Thoughts That Make Your Heart Sing”.

“What Is sin? Sin is trying to get away from God who loves us- it’s wanting to go our own way without him. But the Bible says it’s not like simply wandering off the path and getting lost by mistake. It’s like a horse charging at full speed away from him. We want to get away from God that badly! We are like horses galloping headlong after the things we want.

But God  can stop runaway horses. And lead them gently back.

MARY:
Caleb was the only FNG Big Ball had this morning. Putting the new guy in charge of something so sacred – the American Flag that always stays out front when we mosey and goes with us wherever we go – (I believe) helped him become more comfortable and integrated @ his first time @ F3.

Proverbs 11:14 –> “For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisors.”

This is a call to action. When you look around at our world today – our nation is falling and it’s sad. Because there is a clear lack of guidance. we, men in F3, are called to be HIM = High Impact Men. Your nation needs you, your family needs you, your community needs you, F3 needs you. Take charge and be a leader. You are all leaders in some capacity whether you realize it or not. We found out earlier that when you know who’s on your team it’s a lot easier to embrace the suck knowing who’s beside you going through the same thing. Along with that – we are all cops. A cop is someone who upholds the law and holds others accountable to the law. Who’s the cop in your life? Who holds you accountable and helps you uphold who you were created to be? Are you a cop in anyone else’s life? I need that, we all need that. Men, great work this morning, I cannot begin to tell you what an honor it is to be out here and have the opportunity to lead and serve as your Q. You are free to lead. Take charge and make it happen.

Pray it out.

BOM:

  • “The most secure prisons are those we construct for ourselves.”
  • Rarely do we think about the constraints we place on our own lives. Everything we are afraid to try is a limitation to what we can become. Fear and anxiety keep us from trying new things. Looking back throughout our lives we can see many broken promises to ourselves. Often, we use excuses (not smart enough/not strong enough/ not enough time/etc.) to justify these broken promises. We pay too much attention to words – others and our own – and not enough to the action that defines us.
