CIRCLE OF TRUST/BOM:

I love so many things about F3 workouts – the push, the variety, the comradery, and this right here – the Ball O’ Man or Circle of Trust.  These five minutes that we use to challenge each other to be better men, better fathers, better husbands, better friends…  Where else in our society do men do this?  Maybe in your church… Maybe if you have an exceptional friendship…  Other than that – nowhere do men get to do what we are doing right here and right now.  Oorah, Ball O’ Man!

Exhortation.

The Q-Source has a chapter on Exhortation – Q3.7.  But instead of reading from that, I’m going to borrow an idea from scripture.  1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NIV), “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing”.

encourage one another…  The Greek word which is rendered “encourage” is parakaleo.  Many English interpretations of this verse translate the word as “exhort” rather than “encourage” (ASV, ERV, NHEB, WEB…).  I think of encourage as “motivate”, “cheer on”, or “root for”.  But, “Parakaleo” in the Greek has a legal overtone.  The word implies one who is working to compel a court’s decision (like a defense attorney) – which is more earnest and urgent than the word “encourage” would suggest.  What’s more, the word infers that the person’s judgement is based on their first-hand knowledge of a situation.  That’s precisely what we do in this circle, is it not?  We compel each other, often based on our own experiences (e.g. I’m working on this, maybe you are as well – or I made a mistake and suffered, learn from my mistakes…).

…and build each other up… In the Greek, those words are oikodomeo and literally mean “to build a house”.

If Chaco were here, he could tell us how many different disciplines are involved in building a house.  Concrete, framing, electrical, plumping, roofing, insulation, finish work, etc.  Dozens of trades and hundreds of steps.  In this circle, we cover a wide range of topics; service, forgiveness, vision, prayer, playfulness, carrying your burden, and dozens of others.  Just like a house needs a foundation and insulation and plumbing – I need all this variety of exhortation to become more of a HIM.

I appreciate you men coming out here.  I appreciate so much when you lead!  I appreciate the words that you speak into my life and the way that you exhort me and the other men out here!

MOLESKIN:

Prayers for Trolley’s wife and family

  • Wrap-up
    • Put to death sin – it doesn’t say slap it on the wrist.  Take out a freakin sword and decapitate it.

Colossians 3:5  Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.

    • THE WHAT – Does it say snuggle up with sin, does it say elbow sin..No no.

    • THE HOW: No killing sin is pretty serious. If we were to just punch sin in the face then it wouldn’t be so serious and wouldn’t take so much effort. If we were to try to knock sin out then maybe we would train a little bit for it – maybe you’d read a book or two to help. But no it says to kill sin. So to kill something you need a plan – its VERY SERIOUS. You can’t just wing it. And sometimes even with a plan you’re plan my fail. And so what are you to  do.

      1. Team-mates: Well you might recruit some friends you might recruit some teammates. However, sometimes that sin might be so big and so terrible that a plan and teammates aren’t enough
      2. Professionals: A next step up is you might have to bring in professionals. You might have to go see a Pastor you might have to go see a counselor you might have to go see several counselors maybe a personal counselor and/or maybe a marriage counselor.
      3. Homework: You might have to study. You might have to read a book you might have to take a course. ( FPU example). And sometimes if you’re fighting a big enough war let’s, let’s say for example a culture war then even a plan with teammates and professionals might not be enough if you really want to kill this sin.
      4. Join the Army: In those cases, the next step up is you need an army. For example in World War II we needed a team , we needed a plan,  we needed teammates we needed professionals and we needed an army and we need to tactics.
      5. Attrition: And sometimes even with all those things the sin might hang on. But with agood leader ship ,which we have (Jesus), and good teammates which we have (F3 Brothers), and good pastors,  which we have, and a good army which we have, The last several ingredients of killing sin can be time and attrition which in scriptural terms is called perseverance.

I want to encourage you brothers to enroll each other in each others armies to fight sin until you have decapitated it – in all its forms which are:

Anger, malice, sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, rage, slander, and filthy language. That’s 11 sins to go kill – use every tactic, every brother, every book, every course, every captain and General, then hang on and starve that sin to death through attrition if need be.  Kill it brothers! Kill it!

Tree Biscuit – Shamrock 2021

  • Welcome: Below freezing and they knew what was coming – but 14 came out anyway.
  • Warmup:  1 SSH
  • Workout:  The Tree Biscuit
    • As a group, Run to an un-slapped tree, slap it, everyone call out the running burpee total,  do A single burpee, repeat.
    • Rules:
      • A tree only gets tagged once
      • Scaling/Modification: Skip a burpee if you need to but stay with the pack always.
      • Taggers: Be sure to take turns tagging/slapping a tree
      • In Cadence: The group also calls out the running total, not just the tagger. The tagger calls it out first though. the louder the better.
      • What’s a Tree: Don’t waste time & energy on shrubs – skip the shrubs – tag the trees
      • No Poison Ivy: Pass trees that are surrounded by shrubs, ivy, waist high grass.
      • Terrain:  Be careful when running not to twist and ankle – trees have lots of bumpy roots around them.  And don’t hit your face on a rock or root when doing a burpee in the dirt.
      • Milestones: At 50, 100, 150, 200 make sure the group catches up and circles around the tree, wait a few seconds. Do the burpee.  Celebrating these milestones adds to the encouragement factor.
    • We shattered the 216 record by doing 258 Burpees.
    • Previous Tree Biscuits:
  • Wrap – up:
    • Salvation – Justification – Sanctification – All heady words.  I’m hoping to encourage Harmony with the Holy Spirit, as my brother in Christ, Alistair Begg does here: https://www.truthforlife.org/resources/sermon/sanctification/ .  Scripture is clear that God designed you in the womb, he numbers your days.  He is the Alpha and the Omega. He knows all and is in all.  Know that although you may have bowed the knee to Christ and your destiny is secured – there is still a process going on.  God is not finished with you.  He wants a relationship with you. He will not force himself on you.  God waited 80 years to get started with Moses. He will patiently wait for you to come to Him with eagerness.  If you are not listening to God and want to – pray about it.  God runs back to any prodigal son with open loving arms.  No matter where you are at – you can still work with God.  He knows you inside and out – don’t try to hide anything from him.  Draw close, listen, walk with him. If you need a very slow still pace – He will understand. If you want to ramp things up – he will challenge you appropriately – he will not bury you with Mt Everest if you can only handle the foothills.  Trust him.
